1-1. Screamer apparently. It was. However, nobody was anywhere near him (well, that's what it seemed like from where I was sat, and that's the Brittania Stand next to the tunnel.) Anyway. Slightly disappointed, as you would be after a loss, but it's the first game of the season and we had five new faces (well, four, as Wright is an old but new one.) in the side. The first half was fairly abysmal. Apart from the first minute, where we got possession after a Preston kick off, and Haynes used his pace (for about the only time in the match), put a good cross in to Lisbie, and Lisbie headed it in. Quinn gave away a needless free kick, which did lead to the first goal - even though it was a cracking shot (and like I said earlier, someone should've been on him). Second goal, our defence went walkies. It was a crazy half hour, we started really well. Lisbie was good, Counago was disappointing. But the thing is, Lisbie and Counago are a similar height, and resorting to the long ball as Preston shut out our midfield wasn't really the best option. Pim Balkestein and Tommy Smith both looked like rabbits trapped in headlights first half, but in the second, both played alright. Balkestein has quite a powerful shot on him, just needs to get it on target. Preston were lucky to finish with 11 men. Mellor tried/did (I didn't see, because I was ball watching) punch Pim, and only got a yellow. Preston did well though, after they took the lead, they defended well - Town just couldn't break through. Hopefully Jon Walters will be back for Burnley (he's due back Monday), we did miss him today, and Campo will have signed. The ref was dire. The weather was awful (floodlights in early August, wonderful!). Naff first half, much improved second. Things can only get better really! By the way, has anyone else heard that there's a campaign to get The North Stand renamed The Sir Bobby Robson Stand?
