TAKEN
Liam Neeson plays an ex special ops agent, who has retired to try and develop a relationship with his 17 year old daughter who he neglected while performing his duties.
the daughter duly goes on a European trip with her mate and gets kidnapped by Sex Traffickers in Paris. Cue Neeson going to Paris to find his daughter, and gain revenge on those responsible.
Think a slightly shitter version of Man on Fire crossed with the Bourne Identity and it pretty much sums this film up. It is an enjoyable action movie though and worth a couple of hours of your time.
7/10

I watched Requiem for a Dream last night. very good indeed and completely ripped off by many advertisers/trailer makers from what I could see. I watched this last night, can't remember a film upsetting me so much on first watch.

I watched this last night, can't remember a film upsetting me so much on first watch. It's style is very in your face and you can't help but being affected by it. I think it's one of the only films where I haven't really empathised with any of the character because of their personalities and addictions but at the same time they were still quite likeable

It's the realisation that things are out of control and it's going to take a mountain to climb to remedy it, but none of them are really capable. I won't be watching it again for a while, but it was very well executed. I'm watching Wall-E tonight

I too watched this recently about 2 weeks ago now, I don't want to watch it again, I don't need to watch it again, the last 20 minutes make you almost feel sick. Upsetting sure but it's a very good film rarely has a film resonated with me quite as strongly as this. Wall-E though GT, that's a great film too but in a different way. ;D No you should enjoy it, it's a lot deeper than you expect it to be actually as long as you feel for Wall-E which I couldn't help but do.

Wall-E A lonely robotic device trawling a limited world day in day out with a collection of his favourite things, consuming garbage and forlornly searching for love. But enough about me, this was a great little film; at once simple, touching, surreal and above all effective. 9/10

There Will Be Blood
A quite extraordinary epic tale of two men wrangling over oil fields in the nascent days of the trade. Daniel Day Lewis plays a blinder as the increasingly destestable Daniel Plainview.
Great music and cinematography

MAMMA MIABut I have a talent, a wonderful thing, cause everyone listens when I start to sing (Andersson/Ulvaeus)Now let’s be clear; objectively speaking, 'Mamma Mia' is a terrible film. Pretty much from the moment Sophie (Amanda Seyfried, the best singer amongst the cast) embarks upon the first number, that much is obvious. The script (what there is of it) is flimsy and cliched, the choreography and direction is medicore at best, and some of the dialogue is cringeworthy. It’s the sort of film that makes 'Dawson’s Creek' look deep and insightful. Add a really nauseating performance from Julie Walters and I really wondered whether I’d see it through to the end. Then it happens. Benny and Björn were seemingly not just masterful pop-songwriters but also prophetical, because suddenly a wonderful thing does happen, and everyone does listen because Pierce Brosnan starts to sing……… Well I may be making quite liberal use of the word 'sing' here, because whatever the noise was that spewed forth from Pierce Brosnan’s throat certainly wasn’t singing as I recognised. Every now and then you see a 'car crash moment' that just stops you in your tracks and Pierce Brosnan singing is right up there. Words do not exist to describe how extraordinarily bad his performance of 'S.O.S.' was, but suddenly, in the aftermath, everything made sense. The film was still awful, but you could sense an overwhelming feeling amongst that cast that they appreciated the fact and all they were on board for was to have the best time possible. Meryl Streep especially, gives it her all, even Stellan Skaarsgard let’s himself go, and you end up longing for the whole piece to descend into even greater badness. Then it happens, Pierce sings again; this time 'I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do', and after that my resitance has crumbled, the sheer awfulness has triumphed. A film so bad it's good. Maybe not quite as compellingly so a 'Showgirls' but if you put your brain in neutral and have any sort of affection for ABBA, you’ll enjoy it. 7/10
