SUMMER OF SAMA spike Lee film based around the true story of the 'Son Of Sam' murders in New York (Summer 1977). The murders are the back drop to the film, with the real story here being about the tensions and drama the murders caused in the Bronx and amongst its community. A really good film (if a little long at over 2 hours) with some good performances - well worth a watch. The true story of the 'Son Of Sam' Murders is also really interesting - he was one fucked up nutter! 7/10 from Gres

The Last Action Hero (1993)
A lot cleverer and entertaining than I remember it being at the time, this is actually a surprisingly sharp tale of the boundaries between movies and reality.
And it's quite obvious that the League Of Gentlemen borrowed heavily from the concept for their 2005 'Apocalypse' movie.
8/10

Taken
I went to see this at the weekend as I'd been told that 'Righteous Kill' was twaddle. It was an enjoyable if dumb action film, combining the 'oh no someone kidnapped my daughter' bit from Die Hard 4 with the more visceral style of action seen in the 'Bourne Identity'. The film flows quite quickly and how he makes links between pieces of information is quite strange at times. The action is bone crunching and the torture scene is fun.
All in all
7/10

The Care Bears Movie
Far above the earth, in a sunny land known as Care-a-Lot, lives a lovable band of bouncy, pastel creatures known as the Care Bears, with names like Tenderheart Bear, Funshine Bear, Friend Bear, Cheer Bear, and Love-a-Lot Bear. They keep a close watch on the earth for people in need of caring. As it happens, an orphaned brother and sister named Kim and Jason are very much in need of caring, but once transported to the magic land of Care-a-Lot, they are abolutely full of bubbly, friendly feeling.
This would end the story, except that we come upon Nicholas, a young carnival magician's assistant so desperate for friends that he falls under the influence of an Evil Spirit whose secret agenda is to remove all care and feeling from the world. But the Care Bears rally their forces.
Oh, all isn't smooth sailing. Far from it. An expeditionary force from Care-a-Lot goes astray in the Forest of Feelings. The forces of darkness gain in power. The care-o-meter drops two whole points, then to five. Then to three. People are stopping caring all over!
In the final, cataclysmic struggle between the forces of love and the forces of hate, I dare not reveal who wins. But this endearing movie's mottoes are: never stop caring. And: the best way to make friends is to be a friend yourself.
A beautiful film that makes you realise that friendship and love can over come all the troubles of the world.
10/10

Is that the Liam Neeson fil-lum? It is indeed!! Yes I thought I might give that a whirl. I haven't really got many excuses for not going to the cinema more often since there is one 30 seconds walk from my office.

I'm embarassed for you I truly am! I have plenty of people to be embarassed for me already, thank you very much!! You have to remember the Wombles were doing re-cycling long before the term eco-warrior was coined. You may try and hide your deep and abiding affection for Tomsk, Uncle Bulgaria et al .......... but if you love the care bears so much, then why did you choose to professionally re-cycle like a Womble rather than care like a care bear??

Dear chap you miss the point. In order to recycle or in my case work within the Waste Management strata, you need to develop a love for the greater good. It was my exposure to the Care Bears and their brand of love that enabled me to make a difference in areas like Brixton, Stockwell, Clapham and Streatham. I am in effect the South London Care Bear! Call me [shadow=red,left,300] Waste Not Alot Bear![/shadow]
