Garteh McAuley SignsTown have signed Gareth McAuley from Leicester on a three year contract. The 28-year-old Northern Ireland international, a long time target of Blues' boss Jim Magilton, has joined the Club for an undisclosed fee (although is believed to be between 1.1 Million and 1.5 Million GBP)

And you've signed..?
Oh yeh, you might be signing Stephen Hunts brother, who's scored an average of what, 1 in 3 for Dundee UTD...not all they great for a team looking to bounce straight back into the Premier League is it?

Gareth McAuley. If I had to sum him up in one word it would be 'solid.'
He was a fundamental part of what was actually a half-decent defence for us last season. Commands the back well, good header of the ball and has saved us with a few brilliant last-ditch tackles. We didn't concede many goals when he was in defence.
Downsides...well he is a bit on the slow side, but no more than your average centreback. The main problem is his passing from the back. He'll either pass it sideways or hoof it. There have certainly been a couple of hospital passes where he was trying to find the midfield and missed.
I would have wanted him in our team next season but feel the price isn't too bad.

Out team is good enough and we'll add a couple of players. It may have escaped your notice but hardly any transfers have taken place yet. Why rush in to things?

I know for a fact that I have seen Gareth McAuley play on over 20 occasions in the last 2 years, and though I never really considered his influence that much before we were linked with him, I watched him subsequently (for example in Leicester's 2-0 home win over Coventry in January) and noted many very positive contributions to the game on his part. He was exactly as Geo says - 'solid'. Passing wasn't great (then again no-one in that Leicester defence was brilliant at passing, especially the long ball... *cough* STEARMAN *cough*) but our defence needs a cool head with experience and I think he's an excellent signing.

1 - ( reading dude ) well we're happy with these signings. Why u needed to get involved n say " average " isn't the nicest of comments. Still ur prized assets ( Shorey, thats it ) will be off. We're happy with these signings ( Central defence = dogshit ) so thats good !! im sure u'll sign a few players too, be interesting to see how u rate them ?!
2 - of course McAuley played hoof ball at Leicester, ur entire team does. We'll sort out his passing, if theres one thing we can do its pass a ball ( doesn't always get results but we play the game the right way ) if he's got the defensive attributes, im very confident we'll sort out the passing side of his game.
Very good start to the transfer window. If Garvan goes, he goes ( i think he will )

No Leicester player is worth over £1million. At this moment I would want more than £1 million for Joe Mattock, Richard Stearman and Patrick Kisnorbo. I'd want in the region of £1 million for Iain Hume too.

I think he'll be a very good signing for you too, particularly if you have been having some problems at centre back. I think if he shores up your defence you have very capable players elsewhere who can do some of the more fancy stuff.

No Leicester player is worth over £1million. At this moment I would want more than £1 million for Joe Mattock, Richard Stearman and Patrick Kisnorbo. I'd want in the region of £1 million for Iain Hume too. Kisnorbo - Definitely. I still think he was one of the best defenders in the Championship, but sadly it wasn't the backline that was the problem. £1m at least. Hume - Is he leaving? One is cautious to trust players when they say they are committed despite relegation (e.g. Alan Smith, Dean Ashton, Andy Johnson, and within the last few hours, Ibrahima Sonko) but he's suggesting that he wants to stay. I'd be surprised if he carries that out, but if he doesn't, he's definitely worth at least as much as Alan Lee would be for us. Pricing on that score depends on your point of view. Stearman - not sure I agree there. Stearman is promising undoubtedly, but at that level he's not enough of a finished product to warrant being worth more than £1m in my view. Mattock - I might be barking but I reckon you'll keep hold of him. And I also reckon that if you do, he'll be absolutely immense in League One.

But if a championship club came in for him, I wouldn't blame him for leaving. Same with Mattock really, he has developed a lot, and to progress his England career he really can't afford to drop to league 1. If there is 1 player we can cash in on it is him. But he's very talented, and of course I want him to stay. Interesting about Stearman. I never really rated him, but he is young and has potential. I don't know if it is because he is a Leicester fan but he was one of the few players who stepped up to the plate in the last couple of months of the season. If he can put in consistent performances like his most recent ones, he could be a very good player.

Um..I presume you mean Alan Smith when Leeds were relegated? He didn't say he was committed to us - he said "he wasn't a Championship player" - he wanted to go.
