Is this Season's European Champions League Final a deliberate recipe for disaster? There's going to be all the Chelsea and the (doubtless large contingent of) "Cockney Reds" all at the same airport departure lounges etc. When they all get to Moscow, there's going to be pissed-up mobs of English with money in their pockets everywhere.... in Moscow. Hell.
The sensible thing would be to play the match in Cardiff, share the tickets 50/50 between club members, but hey, what do I know?
Still, next season we can all look forward to either Cardiff or Portsmouth in the UEFA cup. Hell. Again...

At the same time I don't see the alternative. Once the venue is booked and planned (and let's face it we'd happily go to see Real vs Barce in the UK) and the locals expect it, it is really hard to snatch it away from them.
In all other respects however I see what you mean and, just to prove it, I won't be going either.

I don't think you can call it a 'deliberate' recipe for disaster; I don't think anyone banked on those two getting to the final. It's got a few key ingredients for it though. What worries me more than the Brits going out there is that Russian hooligans make it quite clear that they consider 'beating the Brits' to be the biggest prize in football among hooligans (numerous documentaries and interviews have raised that point). Will it be Manc vs Chelsea fans causing the problems, or the locals wading in?

Sorry, that's kind of what I meant with the reference to the "pissed-up mobs with money in their pockets" reference. Yes, I do think that Chelsea and Man Utd supporters will be vulnerable in Moscow, but there's no chance of them keeping a low profile! I don't hold out much hope of the Russian Police being models of tactful law enforcement either, somehow...

Agreed on both those points; let's just hope it doesn't end up badly

At £700 for a return ticket and £60 for the match ticket accomodation ETC plus spends i think only the famous prawn sarnie brigade are the only ones who can afford to go from Manchester and those prices are standard for Chavski anyway aren't they? it's a good job it is Chavski because i think the trouble would be alot worse if it was Liverpool and United

Anyone else think that the stabbing of that Russian guy in Manchester last night will be seen by Moscow's hooligans as a licence for "revenge"? I know it's highly unlikely either Man Utd or Chelsea's supporters were involved (what with it being in Manchester and not London ), but I can't see that being of particular relevance to them

Now it will just be a bad dream.
