RUUD van Nistelrooy could be part of the deal which takes Didier Drogba to Real Madrid.
Chelsea are considering taking the former Manchester United striker in part-exchange for the Ivory Coast hitman.
The Blues have put an £18m price-tag on their star forward, who has made it clear he wants to leave the club.
But Drogba has put any thoughts of a move on hold until after the Champions League Final on May 21.
A move back to England for van Nistelrooy with Chelsea would be a stunning development for the former United star, who is still the record European goal scorer at Old Trafford.

Chelsea have set their sights on Inter Milan manager Roberto Mancini to succeed Avram Grant, who will be asked to move upstairs to resume his role as director of football next season.
Mancini, 43, who will win his third straight Serie A title today if Inter beat Parma, has emerged as favourite to take over at Stamford Bridge ahead of Frank Rijkaard, who has left Barcelona.

Didier Drogba is on his way out of Chelsea, it has been revealed.
The Daily Mail says Drogba's Chelsea career is over after he was sent off in disgrace during the Champions League Final against Manchester United.
The club's patience with the £24million striker snapped after he was shown a red card following his petulant flick in the face of United defender Nemanja Vidic.
Drogba had been earmarked to take one of Chelsea's penalties, but did not even remain on the sidelines to watch the drama unfold in the shoot-out.
AC Milan was the striker's favoured destination, but their failure to qualify for the Champions League next season has placed the move in jeopardy.

"He told me that they were considering making an offer of £28m for Robinho. We did not talk about wages or the length of the contract."
Robinho, 24, also confirmed there was firm interest from the Blues.
He said: "What could happen is that I could go to Chelsea, as I have an offer from them. Milan are also interested in me."
