With the number of friendlies being played today despite the protestations of the G13 clubs should caps be only awarded for competitive matches namely qualifiers & finals. Personally I feel it would be far better to compare players records. Charlton & the Lion of Vienna have worse scoring records overall than Michael Owen but a better performance games per goal if friendlies are removed. I would like to see it applied across the board with records revised & make caps more meaningful as is seen with Test Cricket & rugby. Opinions ?

I think the current system works okay, but it'd be better if, when reporting caps, it was noted how many came from friendlies. To the players that actually yearn to play for their country, I think it'd be irrelevant whether the cap is for a friendly or a competitive match; being picked for your country would still be just as incredible. Likewise, those who appear to just go through the motions don't seem to give a crap if it's a friendly or competitive cap either.
