Stoke v Darlington Stoke loan signing Jeff Whitley should make his full debut after he was given permission to play by Cardiff. But new signing Danny Higginbotham (knee) and unfit striker Sammy Bangoura will again be missing.
Darlington are expected to give Julian Joachim his full debut, with Simon Johnson playing alongside him up front.
Joey Hutchinson could make way for Brian Close in defence, while new signing David Rowson goes straight into the squad.

Stoke 1-2 Darlington Julian Joachim's strike put 10-man Darlington into the second round of the Carling Cup, as the League Two side stunned Championship Stoke. The Quakers had a terrible start as defender Craig James was sent off for a reckless challenge after 12 minutes.
And the Potters took the lead on 29 minutes as Vincent Pericard drove a cross-shot into the corner.
Darlington levelled on half-time with Carlos Logan's drive before Joachim blasted home from 25 yards.
