Brighton and Hove Albion have parted company with manager Mark McGhee. The ex-Reading, Leicester, Wolves and Millwall boss and assistant Bob Booker leave immediately with youth coach Dean Wilkins taking temporary charge.
McGhee joined Brighton in October 2003 but leaves with them struggling in 17th place in League One.
"Mark has lost the backing of the fans and I've taken the decision which I think is right for the club," said Brighton chairman Dick Knight.
"Mark understands that and has agreed to step down. A lot of people thought Mark would be leaving at the end of last season but at that time I backed him, I thought he needed the chance.
"What has happened is the fans have really got on Mark's back and that is the way it is in football, and the team needs to be rejuvenated."
Wilkins will take over as caretaker until a full-time successor is identified.
He deserves to be on the dole - wanker!

My dis-like of the man goes back to 1997.
We got promoted to the prem and Wolves - then managed by McGhee didn't.
He slagged us off during the Summer saying we would be shark-food for the big boys and would come straight back down.
of course history proved him right but it was just sour grapes on his part.

He played for Ferguson in the successful Aberdeen side of the early 80's and has always yearned to follow in his footsteps.
But he just comes across as bitter and carries that - 'its not my fault' - look.

Know quite a few brighton fans and they hate him - sure they're very happy, most of his after match talks I've heard he's blammed the players.
Sometimes thats right, however it does not inspire confidence

I thought McGhee was a decent manager but he did have a fantasatic squad to work with. He got to a certain point where he couldn't really take us any further.
Saying that, Could they not have done it after saturday's match? I hate playing against teams with new manager etc as they normally seem to up there game!

Agreed, the squad he had was one of the best I've seen. However he just didn't have that extra to take us to the bridge so to speak.

FUCK!!!!!!!
Surely a manager of limited competence is better than no manager at all? And if we go through the same fiasco we have done over strikers... And we sack him AFTER Kazim-Richards goes following an arguement with him. Horses, bolts, stable doors...
