What a great man. I meant to post this up yesterday but forgot.
I was listening to talksport yesterday and a Sunderland fan phoned up. On saturday night all the Sunderland fans were sitting on their easyjet flight at Bristol airport waiting to depart for Newcastle to return home. Then Niall Quinn walked onboard. As you can imagine this please the Sunderland contingent and they started singing Niall Quinn's disco Pants are the best. All seems Dandy now.
Well the easyjet staff took exception to this and said all the fans were drunk. They refused to fly the plane and so everyone was ejected back into the terminal. This is where Quinny comes in.
He put every single Sunderland fan that wanted to into a taxi and sent them home from his own pocket. Consider that each taxi was £600. What a top bloke.
This is the sort of thing it isn't well publicised but it deserves to be. Niall Quinn has gained my utmost respect for this gesture. I do not know many other chairman that would have done the same.
And do you know what the best bit of it all is:
He stayed at the taxi depot until every single Sunderland fan had left.

Quinny is a ledge ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) When he had his testimonial - it raised around a million quid, what did he do with it? Gave it to charity.
