AND - they do well (I'll leave you you define what 'well' is) is Steve McClaren the manager to lead England in the World Cup 2010 Qualification campaign?
To me doing well is finishing in the top 3 (not setting standards too high am I?) - anything less than that it should be bye-bye Steve.
As to who should replace him - that's a different question, but I don't agree with Monday's Sun re the rumours Alan Shearer is a possible replacement.
I can see where the rumour-mongers are coming from with the 'pride and passion approach' but personally I'd love a manager who's a proven winner with a CV to match!
Scolari remains my first choice - but might be interesting to see how Mourinho tackles the job.

At the current time... Allerdyce would be the only English manager to appeal to me. I would prefer to have an English manager but there is hardly a long appealing list to choose from so it may well have to be another foreigner.
I don't think our team is good enough to get to finish 3rd anyway - that's going to stop me going to Austria/Switzerland and having a big piss up though. Can't wait. They better not let me down and lose tomorrow.
For the record, you can get odds of 11/2 for a Croatia win tomorrow. Blinding odds in my opinion.

And I still think we've got the players to be in the top 3 (and this is only the European Championship) - just need a manger to meld them into a winning side (not fussed about attractive attacking footy - just to feel confident that every time England play they'll grind out the required result)! Allardyce - not exactly setting the premiership alight at the mo! Harry Redknapp is the highest placed English manager in the English leagues at this time. Christ - I'll get me coat
