Danny free for move into market
HARTLEPOOL United's transfer embargo was today lifted and manager Danny Wilson will now be able to strengthen his squad.
The club announced this morning they are now able to dip into the market after the disappointment of missing out on former Aston Villa and Leeds United star Julian Joachim yesterday.
Pools spoke to the player but the restrictions in place meant rivals Darlington picked up the striker from Boston last night in a £100,000 deal.
Manager Wilson admitted Joachim was one of many irons in the fire and he will now look to freshen up his squad before the weekend.
"We have asked about Joachin but he is just one of the names be have been looking at. We have spoken to lots of clubs about players," Wilson said.
"But in terms of getting pipped to sign him, that is a bit different because we were not in a position to actually sign players.
"We are looking at all scenarios whether it is players moving on or exchanges deals or whatever."
He added: "It is no secret that we are looking to add a couple of faces to provide that spark the squad needs.
"We will keep working at it until we are in a position to do so."
In a statement this morning, the club announced the embargo had been lifted after re-structuring of funds and the recent big-money departures of Adam Boyd and Tommy Bulter following on from the release of eight first-team squad members.
Pools statement said: "Once it was clarified that the Football League would not be giving any grace period to relegated clubs Increased Oil Recovery has been working hard behind the scenes to comply with the rules (that players salaries must not exceed 60 per cent of the club's turnover).
"As a result of several player movements and restructuring of funding from IOR, the new club financial information was re-submitted to the Football League.
"Word was then given that the club complied with the regulations, and as such, the embargo has now been lifted.
"It represents some excellent news for Pools and for boss Danny Wilson who can now step up his search for new players to add to the current squad."
Meanwhile Wilson refused to be drawn on yesterday's revelation from goalkeeper Dimi Konstantopoulos that he is "desperate to leave" Pools.
Quotes attributed to the Greek stopper were published on a football website with Konstantopoulos pleading to be allowed to move to Coventry City after Pools knocked back a bid from the Sky Blues a fortnight ago.
While Wilson chose not to get involved, there is a feeling at the club that it may have been a case of mischief-making by the players' agent, after the keeper himself insisted last week in SportMail that any deal looked dead in the water and he was going to get on with the job at Victoria Park.
