Macclesfield and Hartlepool earned their first points of the season but a stalemate at Moss Rose means both sides are yet to score in the new campaign. Hartlepool went close when Gavin Strachan's 20-yard free-kick was cleared off the six-yard line.
Matthew McNeil had the best chance of the game shortly after the half-hour mark but fluffed his shot horribly.
McNeil might have won the game on 83 minutes but Dimi Konstantopoulos made a fine save to claw the ball wide.
