Dug the LP player out of the loft the other day; sat and tinkered with the motor til it worked (was previously going fast-slow-fast-slow-fast-slow), and have now got access to the masses of LPs that were also in the loft. It's frightening what my parents' taste in music was like On the one hand, Hot Chocolate, Slade, Status Quo, Beatles etc - very good. On the other, tons of Kraftwerk, some Bananarama and some other artists I don't dare mention through embarrassment by association. My personal collection currently consists of one special edition Marilyn Manson single, one special edition James Dean Bradfield single and one limited edition (1 of 1000 worldwide with a flocked cover, mm hmm~) Manic Street Preachers album, but naturally I can look into more now that we have a working player ;D Anyone else got any favourite LPs they should really dig out again, or any hideously embarrassing ones that they now question ever buying? ;D

I finally got round to sorting out my Dad’s records at the weekend as it happens, talk about a trip down memory lane He had some good stuff. Beatles ‘White Album’ gatefold with the photos. ‘Sergeant Pepper’ too. Lots of ELO, Led Zep, early Genesis, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull and some Monty Python and Jasper Carrott records. As far as my collection goes I started collecting years ago but didn’t have the funds to sustain it. I’ve got various Metallica records and picture discs (including an original Garage Days 12”), some ‘Mindcrime’ era Queensryche (love the concept and the artwork), Pantera, Ozzy, Faith No More, Monster Magnet etc.

Actually, my Mum had some Python stuff too! I think it was 'The Single' with the B-Side 'The Cheese Shop' (or vice-versa?) My Mum or Dad also had a lot of ELO too, as well as Pink Floyd and Mike Oldfield (including hte Tubular Bells LP).
Nice little collection yourself there GT ;D

My dad has Neil Sedaka and Freddie and the Dreamers amongst his - and you thought you had problems!!

My parents always had a lot of Billy Conolly on vinyl, sad thing is, when I was about 12 I used to pretend I was DJ Eric B and scratch with stuff like that. The rest was mostly Wings, The Eagles, The Beatles and some tragic stuff aswell like Neil Diamond. Whereas Diamond's a very talented man, having his music as the soundtrack to your childhood may provoke mental instability later in life. Trust me. My elder sisters had cool records though. The Smiths, Stone Roses, U2, Happy Mondays, Primal Scream, early R.E.M. and loads of 80's stuff I can't recall.

Okay, I concede that Sedaka and Freddie and the Dreamers beats Kraftwerk... I always used to want to try that DJ-scratching, but I was pretty sure my parents would've broken my fingers (several times) if I'd tried...

That should have happened, if I was in their shoes and I caught me scratching their records, I'd have put me on the turntable and inserted the stylus in my eye. Perhaps it's good I haven't got children.

I've stiil all The Police albums on vinyl somewhere as well as a Bob Marley album (cant remember which), couple of Jam, Madness, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, MSG, The Beat and several others that don't readily spring to mind. Most of the stuff I had was on tape and has probably long since been thrown out.

Found a couple more 'What were they thinking?' vinyls yesterday! Granted, they're fun songs, but they're not exactly masterpieces...
One was Paul McCartney's single that he did for one Rupert cartoon/film; 'We All Stand Together'. It's the one with the singing frogs ('The Frog Chorus') if that rings any bells?
The other one, I can't give you the group's name because that bit of the sleeve is missing (i.e. torn off), but the title is 'Fedora (I'll be your dawg)'
Fedora! Where is that dog? Have you seen Fedora? No, but I'll be your dawg! Woof woof-woof woof, wuff wuff wuff! Woof woof-woof woof, wuff wuff wuff! Woof woof-woof woof, wuff wuff wuff! Woof woof-woof woof, wuff wuff wuff!
Fedora (A doggy-doggy-doggy) For sure-a (A doggy-dog-dog) We won't see (A doggy-doggy-doggy) No more-a!
It was remade in a Kia-Ora advert ages ago too, if that helps!

The LP is Lipstick Traces: A Secret History. I've got a load of others on CD, but CD albums are boring; we want novelty value in this thread!
