I know most of you on 606 aren't on my Livejournal list (in fact, I believe only one of you are), but I thought this entry was worth throwing your way. According to the writers' own canon rules, the Doctor's only got three incarnations left after Tennant - once those three actors are done, the Doctor's supposed to die; no more Dr Who ever. I've put an entry up speculating about what might happen after that: cloud-1-3-5.livejournal.com/495421.htmlSo feel to head on over and take a look, maybe even leave a comment - anonymous comments are allowed, so you don't need an account

Also when they resurrected the Cybermen and the Daleks they were better. The storylines in the 'ressurected' series have been superb throughout. The effects and better costume department etc all help massively, but the actual plots have been fantastic.

a way will be found.........Dr Who cannot die I daresay they'll find a way, if only for the money - but what concerns me is exactly what way they'll find There are all manner of horrible scenarios popping up in my head, and very few that sound like they could actually work. The writers have so far given me some hope that they'd be able to pull it off well, but many of the ideas just seem like no-no's from the start. The Dr Who series would probably be around 50 years old by the time they final incarnation dies - it seems almost impossible to imagine they'd just pull the plug after all that

The only thing I'm not happy about is the way they keep killing off the Daleks and then finding some way to bring them back to life. What are they gonna do now with just one Dalek left?
Plus the Master in the last series was the only incarnation of him since the Time War (assuming you discount him as a human in the form of Professor Yana) so how can they bring a plot back involving him?

Not seen the old episodes, but yeah, there were quite a few incarnations of him then. Then they put a Time War between the old ones and the recent ones, during which the other Time Lords were wiped out and the Master turned himself into a human and hid. My point is that I don't think they can revive any other incarnations from before the Time War (experts are needed to clarify this more than me who just enjoys watching it), so the one killed in the last series seems to be the only one who can be used.

your like me Pete, i love watching it but am no expert. With the new writers who are excellent IMO, they will find a way over this problem of incarnations

At one point in the Master's history, he attempted to give himself... well, for the sake of using video game terminology, 'extra lives' by using the artifacts of Rasilldon (or some similar name), but was thwarted by the Doctor. That is one way that an old incarnation could come back. Also, if The Doctor and The Master escaped from the Time War, who's to say others didn't? The Doctor only said he believed he was the last Time Lord, and he's already been proven wrong about that once! There are several scenarios that I think the writers could use, mind. During the seventh incarnation, there were hints that The Doctor isn't an 'ordinary' Time Lord, so he may have extra incarnations or something like that. There've also been hints that Rose is carrying The Doctor's baby (though I personally don't think that is the case), in which case they could have his son continue? Let's hope not; that'd feel like a horrible spin-off. Also, Rose is currently in a parallel universe, if I remember rightly? Since she's due to come back for three episodes in the next series, we can safely assume other people could cross the dimensions too - maybe there's a parallel Doctor who could continue? I also wouldn't rule out the possibility that the writers could just come up with some whole new scenario altogether - it just depends, for me, on how well they do it. If they just suddenly and conveniently come up with one, then it'd feel wrong, I think, and they also have to be sure they don't violate any of the past canon 'rules' sent by previous writers. If it were something like a special elixir that grants him extra incarnations, I'd frankly feel cheated. I hope (and partly suspect) that they've already begun considering what to do when they run out of Doctors, though, and will begin dropping hints into the plot over the next few series. I can't see Tennant doing more than two more series, and after that, they've got 3 incarnations - so for such a big plot point, they'll have to start work soon!
