LAWN DOGS (BBC2 12.05am)
Indie film from 1997 featuring Sam Rockwell and a fantastic performance by a 10 year old Mischa Barton. It tells the story of an unlikely friendship that is struck up between the local odd job man and the young, lonely, recuperating daughter of one of his customers.
Presenting a compelling portrait of bourgeois bigotry, and played by leads possessing a real chemistry, this is a largely undiscovered, gem of a movie.

DOG DAY AFTERNOON (ITV3 10pm)
One of the most iconic films of 1970's cinema. This story of a bungled bank robbery that turns into a media circus is hilarious, moving and tragic in equal measures, and boasts one of Al Pacino's greatest ever performances.
Playing Sonny, one half of a bank robbing partnership - his sidekick, Sal, is played memorably by John Cazale - Pacino produces a performance that is probably second only in his cannon to that of his portrayal of Michael Corleone in The Godfather, and just ahead of Scarface's Tony Montana.
A bona fide classic.

Yes that though did occur to me. Ironically not a dog in sight on screen though. *Checks Sky guide to see if any Lassie movies are scheduled*

How very true, though one of my mates is 34 and keeps going back to do more courses at Uni while doing bar work Not a lifestyle I could endorse judging by the fact that he looks on the verge of collapse everytime I see him

I'd love to repeat my time at Uni for sure but i think that kind of life might wear a bit thin with me by 26 tops. He's not the bloke with the funny eyes by any chance is he?

LOL no mate! That's Pete, he is an 'out of work actor' ie he lazes around all day doing fuck all in case it effects his benefits. One of my mates tried to set him up with a job and he filled the form in in the pub - it was chucked in the bin on receipt. Suffice to say my mate won't be doing him any more favours How very true, though one of my mates is 34 and keeps going back to do more courses at Uni while doing bar work Not a lifestyle I could endorse judging by the fact that he looks on the verge of collapse everytime I see him Lol fancy that! DEAD MAN'S SHOES (Film Four 11pm)
As GT will no doubt confirm, Shane Meadow's revenge piece is undoubtedly the best British film produced so far this century.
Richard (Paddy Considine), a disaffected soldier, returns to his home town to exact revenge on the local thugs who terrorised his mentally challenged bother, some years before. Playing out like a cross between Taxi Driver and a slasher movie, but relocated to semi-rural Derbyshire, this is a truly unmissable film.
Considine is electrifying.

Indeed. It reminds me a lot of 'Get Carter' too in it's grimy low budget provincial setting and of course the revenge theme.
Brilliant film

KILL BILL (BBC THREE - 9.30pm)
Quentin Tarantino's glorious homage to the Hong Kong kung fu flicks of the 1970's. Uber cool, endlessly quoteable, fantastic soundtrack, moments of humour.....and BLOOD, BLOOD, BLOOD!! All the usual in fact, but with a higher body count. Uma Thurman is fantastic as the Bride.
THE LONG GOOD FRIDAY (Channel 4 - 11.15pm)
Get Carter aside, this is the ultimate British gangster flick. Starring a rather younger Bob Hoskins, it tells the story of his increasingly desperate attempts to hold his operation together on a day of escalating violence. Helen Mirren plays Hoskins wife, while Pierce Brosnan makes his big screen debut as a gay hit man.
Also featuring a plethora of actors - often in very unfamiliar roles - who have since gone on to be established faces on British television. This is absolutely unmissable

Disco Pigs 01:45 Channel 4 Pig and Runt - born on the same day, in the same hospital, moments apart. Twins, all but by blood. Inseparable from birth, they are almost telepathic. They are also partners in crime, with an appetite for recklessness, exploration and destruction. But days before their 17th birthday the perfect balance of their world begins to shift. Pig's sexual awakening and increasing jealousy begins to threaten the private universe they have spent their lives constructing. Unable to contemplate the loss of Runt, Pig's unpredictable nature spirals out of control in a trail of violence. The invisible thread between them is stretched to breaking point, the inseparable are about to separate, and which one will survive depends on which one can break free.
