Taken from RTE (via WACCOE) today.... Morrissey in talks over Eurovision entryMorrissey is in talks to write the UK entry to the Eurovision Song Contest, the BBC has confirmed. When Daz Simpson's entry 'Teenage Life' was placed fifth last year, Morrissey said: "I was horrified but not surprised to see the UK fail. Why didn't they ask me?" The BBC later approached him in relation to the possibility of him penning this year's entry. A BBC spokesperson said: "Morrissey said that he would be interested in doing it so we approached him and we are currently in discussion." "Nothing is confirmed and we are also talking to other people. Morrissey would be writing the song for someone else rather than performing himself." www.rte.ie/arts/2007/0109/morrissey.html

Hey Travis, this thread completely slipped my radar. I had commented on the thread put up on the 'musicy stuff' board.
Mozza's record company spokeswomen has responded.
But it appears the BBC Eurovision production team may have mistaken irony for enthusiasm. A spokeswoman for Sanctuary, Morrissey's record company, said that while they have not had a definitive "no" from the singer, the idea appeared to be, "a non-starter". She added: "He has certainly had an invitation, but we think it is unlikely he will be taking this forward."
