Broken Flowers
The start of my "School of Travis" education where I hope I won't need to be disciplined because methinks the teacher would enjoy it!
Broken Flowers is about a middle aged man who, after yet another failed relationship, finds himself on journey to find the anoyomous writer of a letter sent to him on pink paper. It tells him that he has an 18 year old son who maybe looking for him. His neighbour Winston decides that he needs to find out which of his many conquests could be the mother of his child.
It's a very slow story and ultimately there are no answers to any of the questions (pretty much a metaphor for life). Bill Murray plays the character with so little emotion it's hard connect with him, which is exactly how the women in his life have felt.
Great supporting cast with Sharon Stone, Jessica Lange and Tilda Swinton as the ladies in Murray's life.
I think the most poigniant moment of the film was discovering one of his ladies had died. He took flowers to her grave and sat next to her and said "hello beautiful". I cried a little at that.
Overall it was good if a little too slow.
7/10

you need to learn to be more objective ;D I'm open minded! Only yesterday I watched a thriller, and just because it was Chilean and it featured an exotic dancer who dnaced with only shaving foam to cover her modesty, I wasn't predisposed to judge it as a piece of trashy exploitation!! ;D Los Debutantes - 7/10. LOL ;D would no shaving foam have earned it an extra mark?

Run Fatboy Run
I avoided this film for a while but saw it at a knockdown price so I thought I'd give it a go.
A lot lot better than I expected. A warm and astute Britcom (directed by David Schwimmer) featuring Simon Pegg as a loveable loser who regrets his lack of commitment 5 years hence when he ditched his bride at the altar.
After meeting her brash new boyfriend he resolves to do something worthwhile and enters a thinly veiled send up of the London Marathon to prove his worth.
It's clear that David Schwimmer has a surprisingly good grasp of contemporary British comedy as this is a well told, if slightly predictable comic tale of redemption. Fine turns from Simon Pegg and Hank Azaria as the warring suitors, and top support from Thandie Newton, Dylan Moran and Simon Day. Some affectionate nods to the likes of Rocky and Bridget Jones Diary, and some sharp one liners, this is a film that deserves a few hours of your time, even if it probably would not stand up to repeated viewings.

8/10

Alien v Predator Reqiuem 2. Quite enjoyable hokum in places when the Predators & Aliens appear . However the ending is very rushed & there are large plot holes. The role of the teenagers is almost akin to the slew of cheap kids in peril movies in the US ie Wrong Turn & also filled with inane dialogue. How the military can fail to contain the Aliens after having watched the Aliens franchise is a mystery & the Predator must be a retard after having seen the original allowing Aliens to close it down etc. Some of the scenes in an effort to exude even more horror are near the knuckle as in the hospital as opposed to the atmospheric or ethereal scenic visions in Alien & Predator. A botch job trying to rake in money using the appeal of the Alien & Predator . 4/10

Kinky Boots
Charlie Price's father owns a Northampton shoe factory, Charlie wants to be in marketing. When Charlie's dad dies suddenly he's left with an ailing shoe factory and 30 staff he doesn't know what to do with.
A chance encounter with drag queen Lola gives him the idea he needs to keep his factory going - Kinky boots for transvestites.
If you can get over the fact that Charlie is such a drip and concentrate on Lola the film is pleasantly suprising. Nick Frost plays a good side part as the homophobic nemesis to Lola.
Has the same feel as the Full Monty but not as much heart.
6/10

Made me laugh no end esp.the Dundas teenager comment. Hes right about the plot holes ie NORAD & not just driving out of town. Considering Hicks put one Alien out of commission with an antique shotgun & seeing as there aer just a hadnful of the beasties a forest posse should have been able to dispose of this lot. Sadly he is right we will have to put up with more sequels. They should tag this review to the DVD release. I returne dmy copy & exchanged it for Wind Chill which is an excellent atmospheric movie.

The start of my "School of Travis" education where I hope I won't need to be disciplined because methinks the teacher would enjoy it! But you insisted that I'd make a good teacher!! While I'm here I'd also like to make a disclaimer on the boards; 'Kinky Boots' is not a title taken from my curriculum. ;D

I don't even know where to start with that at the moment.....

I only know Twin Peaks from that lot and you know my feelings on that subject! The film is the prequel to the tv series - you so need to watch that again, you must've only been about 11 or 12 when it first aired - pretty heartbreaking actually, but it does explain how the mynah bird came to be considered a key murder witness! ;D

I'll be doing one at some stage but I'll settle for calling it godawful and morally reprehesible for now. Did it manage a 3 on the grounds of clocking in at under 90 minutes?
