I was gonna do this as a poll but I'd only insult somebody by not having their fave as an option. My fave is Platoon, mainly because it's one of the more realistic films which actually shows America to be heavy handed and generally crap at war.
What do you lot think?

I love Platoon, Hamburger Hill, Saving Private Ryan, The Deer Hunter (absolute classic), The great Escape ah shit the list is endless.
My favourite though is Apocolypse Now just for its epic fucked up-ness.

I thought of posting this after a conversation in the pub the other week. Somebody piped up with We Were Soldiers. That was probably the funniest suggestion.
I'm surprised nobody suggested Full Metal Jacket.
I don't know but I've been told, Eskimo pussy's mighty cold!
Worth it just for those chants I reckon.

Full Metal Jacket is by far the best one if you want quotable lines, and it's a damn good film in its own right too.
Does Schindler's List count as a war film? It's heavily related to that subject, after all... If not, then I'll go for Band of Brothers - I know it's not a film per se, but it was awesome none the less.

Yep, I'd say Band of Brothers was better than any war film due to it's serial format. I never did get hold of the boxed set on DVD, surely nowadays it's not as extortionately priced as it was?? And yeah Schindler's List is a war film I reckon. Anyone here seen Tigerland? I thought that was pretty good.

Fantastic - in that case, I put Schindler's List at #1, with BoB a close second Not seen Tigerland, but you can probably pick up BoB pretty cheaply now (and it's almost certainly available for download somewhere, if you're willing to go for unscrupulous means!)
