that Spurs are going to sign: Zakora from St Etienne to replace the soon to be released Davids, Carlton Cole for £1.5 mill and Chimbonda for £5.5 mill. I've seen little of Zakora but everyones been makin a big fuss over him for a while he must be good Think Chimbonda would be good as RB is not one of Spurs strong points really, but why the HELL is Jol interested in Cole??

Denilson, what happened to him, when he was at Betis he was supposed to be the next Ronaldo...
There's nothin wrong with having a mainly English squad either Mort, at least it ain't like Chelsea or Arsenal, who at max play 2 Englishmen!

So many rumours, so hard to know what is up: In: Chimbonda - definitely offers made; £5.5m might do it Zakora from St Etienne Carlton Cole (£1.5m) - widely quoted, decent 2nd big forward Konchelsky - mentioned today in one of the broadsheets Barry - rumours aroud for a day Davies - West Brom don't want to sell, but will for right price Bridge - seems he will stay at Chelsea Downing - Boro don't want to sell, so could be expensive Kuyt - old news, but don't dismiss totally (e.g. if Defoe goes) Denilson Ryan Babel - left winger youtube.com/watch?v=UHi11S_Nnm8&search=ryan%20babelOut - Davids - to Ajax, possibly part of an exchange for Ryan Babel Defoe - persistant rumours on a deal with Liverpool Kelly - wants first team football; West Ham, possibly

What are your thoughts on the possibility of Defoe leavin the lane JTS? He wasn't at his best really this season, do you think you should keep him?

Well it looks like Mido won't sign properly so you'd need someone in his mould, cos Keano & Defoe isn't the best partnership, think you'd need a big man upfront to aim at. Fuck Carlton Cole, you can do better than that!

He had a poor season, but I think the England snubs hurt his confidence. The nonsense with Sven opting for playing Beckham as holding midfielder when he had the golden opportunity to play Defoe instead of Owen. Even though Keane was starting in the second half of the season, he still made more appearances than any other outfield player last season (38, tied with Keane). So definitely a valuable member of the squad and still young.

Given Jol's preference for a little and large forward combination, we could have Defoe and Keane in the small spot and Berbatov and someone else as the target man. I think that is why there is an interest in Charlton Cole. Signing Mido may still be a possibility as well.

I agree with you JTS, should def keep Defoe, hope Jol doesn't let him go, especially to Liverpool where he could flourish even more. Didn't realise he had played that many games this season either.
Whatever the outcome re Mido I think next season is one that is full of promise for Spurs, just need a few more decent signings imo, an attacking CM is needed also maybe?

Whatever the outcome re Mido I think next season is one that is full of promise for Spurs, just need a few more decent signings imo, an attacking CM is needed also maybe? Defoe was starter, with Keane sub, for the first 10-15 games, then the roles were reversed, and they both started late in the season. I think Defoe started about 25 games. The central defense with King and Dawson is excellent and Gardner and Davenport are decent backups. The full backs are decent but an area we are trying to improve (Chimbonda, Bridge, possibly Barry or Konchesky) We have many options in midfield. Carrick was attacking more towards the end of the season and Jenas is box-to-box. Murphy could also play an attacking role, if he stays. We also have Huddlestone and Ghaly for the defensive roles if Carrick improves in more forward roles. The right flank is well covered with Lennon and Routledge. The true weakness is the left flank, which is why we may be prepared to overpay for Downing.
