Shepherd not quitting Newcastle
Under-fire Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd insists he will not quit the club.
Angry Newcastle fans called for the head of Shepherd following Saturday's dismal home defeat to Sheffield United.
Magpies supporters staged a protest after the match calling for Shepherd to leave the club.
However, Shepherd is determined to ride out the storm and he has promised to sort out the mess on Tyneside.
"Right now it would seem I am the only one prepared to do this job and it is one I will continue to do to the very best of my ability and with the best interests of the club at heart," Shepherd told the Evening Chronicle.
"There is no doubt we are in a situation which needs sorting out and sorting out quickly.
"None of us can be happy at the position Newcastle United find themselves in right now and it is up to everyone involved to get us out of it.
"We have to do better and that means everyone pulling together for the good of the club to work through what are undeniably tough times."
Shepherd also played down reports linking Gerard Houllier and Alan Curbishley with replacing the under pressure Glenn Roeder.
"We have been down this road before," said Shepherd of the speculation.
Shepherd also revealed that he planned to meet with the Newcastle players to discuss the club's form.
"I think it is time the players are reminded just who they are playing for," added Shepherd.

They seem to have these crises later and later each season and at some point it’s going to be too late to sort out. I like Newcastle and I hope they sort it but I wouldn’t object to a Toon / Forest match in the CCC next season.

How can a supposed 'top side' be so mis-managed and have consistent under performances though?
Shepard is a proper dodgy bastard if I ever saw one, definately wouldn't want him at my club.
And yes it is good news for clubs like us GIAR ;D

How can a supposed 'top side' be so mis-managed and have consistent under performances though? Ask the Leeds fans ;D ;D ;D Mind you, I know a thing or two about it myself, though it’s been a long while since we were considered a ‘top side’

Mwahaha ;D They have the money (I think), and the stadium, & the fans, they do actually have some good players aswell, so why put Roeder in charge? ?? The mind boggles!

He does seem to be a bit of an albatross. Always comes across as a nice bloke but utterly ineffectual when it comes down to it.
It's make or break time up there, and a lot of my mates up there are more worried than ever before.

He'll be gone or they'll be gone ;D Shepard is the other half of the problem I think. Still, as long as they take our place in the bottom three I shouldn't really complain too much

KEEP ROEDER KEEP ROEDER!!!! You know what Freddy Shepherd's like. I'd be very surprised if this isn't a prelude to another dismissal.

Shepherd (wanker) has backed Roeder (not good enough). That's him for the chop then.
Sold Chopra to Cardiff for £300k. Chopra top scorer in CCC.
Spent a bucket load of money and got fuck all.
Ameobi,Lucque,Bramble,Butt,Duff the list is endless.
