Newcastle will give fitness tests to Obafemi Martins and Nicky Butt while Emre (back) and Antoine Sibierski (toe) are also doubtful.
Charlton are boosted by the return of four senior players.
Darren Bent, Andy Reid and Souleymane Diawara (all hamstring) and Amdy Faye (foot) are now fit.

Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder:
"Charlton have not always finished seasons well, but they have never been in the position they are in at the moment.
"They will be fighting for their lives - but it's all about us, it's about us at Newcastle getting our performance correct on the day, playing the way we did against Portsmouth and creating the same amount of chances.
"In that game, we created the most chances we have created in any one game this season."
Charlton assistant head coach Les Reed:
"It's too early to start talking about relegation. I just see this as a bottom of the table battle that we need to get something out of.
"We need points from that and the game after against Manchester City to avoid getting drawn into a relegation battle later on.
"But we can't hide the facts, the league table is what it is. Ourselves, Newcastle, Manchester City and Watford are down there and this period of games is very important to us all."
BIG-MATCH FACTS
NEWCASTLE UNITED against Charlton is a Saturday teatime bottom-of-the-table six pointer between the club with just one home League win to their name and the club to have lost all four League fixtures away from home. The clash brings together two under-fire managers in Glenn Roeder and Iain Dowie, although both will have been lifted by midweek Carling Cup victories.
Roeder is selecting a Newcastle side for the 25th time in a Premiership contest. But since he was appointed permanently, the Magpies have only won two League games and lost the last three on the bounce.
Half of the 14 Premiership fixtures between the Magpies and the Addicks ended all square.
CHARLTON ATHLETIC have made a pitifully poor start to this Premiership season, losing 78% of their matches (seven of nine). They arrive in the north east, having dropped all but four of 54 points on the road in just over a year - winless in 18.
A 2-0 home win over Bolton is the Addicks' only League maximum under Dowie. If the side could achieve another here, they'd climb above Newcastle in the table.
The Londoners hold a four-match unbeaten sequence against Newcastle, including draws from their last two trips to Tyneside. The Addicks' most recent victory at St James' was 0-1 on 23 September 2000 when Graham Stuart netted the winner.
