Middlesbrough have agreed a deal to sign former Werder Bremen forward Lee Dong-Gook from Pohang Steelers. Boss Gareth Southgate said Boro are now only waiting on a work permit for the 27-year-old South Korean international.
Lee has not played the required 75% of competitive internationals for his country in the last year but had been injured for the majority he missed.
The striker, who has scored 22 goals in 64 appearances for South Korea, has been training with Boro this month.
Highly-rated Lee missed out on the chance to put himself in the shop window at the 2006 World Cup after injuring knee ligaments in April.
And the 2002 semi-finalists missed his predatory eye for goal in Germany when they crashed out at the group stage.
