Liverpool FC are closing in on the signing of Dutch striker Dirk Kuyt after agreeing a fee with his club Feyenoord Rotterdam.
It had already been revealed last month that Liverpool were leading the race to sign the Dutch striker but faced competition from Newcastle and other European clubs for his signature.
The 26 year old striker has a formidable record of 71 goals in 101 appearances for current club Feyenoord since joing in 2003 from FC Utrect where he scored 51 times in 161 appearances. Kuyt was part of this summers world cup squad and played in most games controversially keeping out ex Manchester United striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy.
Kuyt told Sky Sports News
"There are a few clubs interested - but only one is my dream club," Kuyt told Sky Sports News.
"I don't want to say anything about that - but I think we can say more in a few days."
It is not understood whether fellow Dutchman defender Jan Kromkamp is part of the deal after being deemed surplus to requirements at Anfield.
Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder was in Dublin last night to see Kuyt in action against the Republic of Ireland but now looks like he will have to turn his attention towards other strikers to replace Alan Shearer on Tyneside.
