Everton are in talks with Benfica to sign midfielder Manuel Fernandes, who is currently undergoing a medical at their Bellefield training ground. The 20-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan at Portsmouth, who were priced out of a permanent deal.
A statement on Everton's website said: "He will come for an initial six-month loan. Then we would have an option to make the move permanent in the summer."
Fernandes played 12 games for Pompey, scoring once in the Carling Cup.
"We have been in discussions with Benfica and representatives regarding the possibility of a loan move until the end of the season," added Everton chief executive Keith Wyness.
"As part of that process he is currently undergoing a medical at Bellefield. However, the transaction is not complete."
