Manchester United striker Alan Smith admits he may leave Old Trafford if he fails to get assurances about his future from boss Sir Alex Ferguson. Smith, 26, has failed to command a regular first-team place since recovering from a broken leg.
He told The Sun: "If the manager tells me he wants me, I'm there for him. If he doesn't, it's time to move on.
"If you're no longer wanted, then you have to consider your options. I want to be out there from the start."
He revealed his future now lay in Ferguson's hands, saying: "If they are going to sell me, I'd like to know. But I won't find out unless I get to speak to the manager."
Smith, signed from Leeds United for £7m three years ago, has two years left on his current deal, but it is understood he has not been offered a new contract by United.
He battled back from serious injury to play last season and also win an England recall, and now wants regular action.
Middlesbrough, Spurs, Aston Villa and Rangers have all been linked with Smith, but Everton's interest has cooled.

cant say i blame either him or united if they want to part ways......not good enough, simple as He's not that bad. Was a shame he got played in midfield for a while. I think he'd do well at a "lesser club"
