FORMER Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell will sign for Cardiff City in time for Saturday's opening Coca-Cola Championship clash at Barnsley.
Campbell flew in to Cardiff International Airport from Manchester today and transferred directly to Ninian Park for his medical.
England B international Campbell, 36, has agreed terms and will sign if there are no problems with the medical.
The arrival of Campbell, likely to be substitute at Barnsley on Saturday, takes Cardiff City's number of signings to 12 during the close season.
Campbell and winger Willo Flood, a £200,000 buy from Manchester City, have arrived this week.
Lambeth-born Campbell started his career at Arsenal in 1995 and has commanded fees of £8.3m - from Arsenal to Nottingham Forest (£2.8m), Forest to Turkish club Trabzonspor (£2.5m) and Trabzonspor to Everton (£3m).
He signs for Cardiff on a free transfer, having been released by West Brom, who have bolstered their striking options with the arrival of Welsh international John Hartson from Celtic.
Campbell has scored 166 goals during his career, making 464 first-team starts and 101 appearances as substitute.
He joined West Brom from Everton in January 2005, playing 45 first-team matches and scoring six goals.
Initially, the highly experienced Campbell will be back-up to Steve Thompson and Michael Chopra, who are certain to start against Barnsley
