CARDIFF CITY have signed one of the Premiership's rising stars in Arsenal defender Kerrea Gilbert.
Gilbert - who can play at right and left back - passed a medical yesterday at Ninian Park and has penned a one-year loan deal with a no-recall clause written into the contract.
A delighted City owner Sam Hammam told the Echo today: 'We have been tracking Gilbert for more than a year and I'm delighted we have him on board.
'He is a quality player and that's what we are trying to do at the club. While we have good players, now we need very good players to go to the next level.
'I now feel that we have completed the defence for the new season and now we will try to improve the midfield and attacking units in the weeks to come.
'Gilbert is a great player and we have a great rapport with one of the leading clubs in the Premiership - he will be a fantastic asset to the club.'
Gilbert is a strong tackling player and this won him praise from Thierry Henry after the captain headed home the youngster's cross during last season thrilling Carling Cup semi-final against Wigan at Highbury.
Gilbert's signing comes at the end of a week in which Nantes striker Luigi Glombard also came on board at City.

Great signing! We need him badly, the defence has been complete shite in the last 2 matches. As soon as Purse went off at half time they were all over the place ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) Hopefully he'll be a bit better than Weston and the other idiots we have in defence!

Arsenal right back made the pass for Henry's goal in the Carling cup semi final at Highbury against Wigan (only game i've really seen him play) and he did fantastically well in that match
