Not excited enough to watch the webcast, but I'm glad another team's being created, especially given how popular "soccer" is in Seattle Quite impressed at the turnout at MLS games this season too - averaging 16,753 a game so far across the board, with attendances ranging from 8,731 to 27,000. Not bad at all! no prob. I'll watch it for you gangster & watch for the report on this thread later on today!!! ;D Yeah, no doubt it seems like everyone is playing soccer around here - all I see is kids at the parks practicing. Hopefully it will catch on accross the country soon with the adding of better talent.

Like the crest! Any particular reason given for 'Sounders'?

Just found this article regarding Seattle's name selection... www.thenewstribune.com/sports/columnists/mcgrath/story/328614.htmlOkay, I'll agree with one point there - 'Republic' and 'Alliance' would both have been pretty crap nicknames. But am I the only one who thinks he sounds like a pretentious prick? I mean, heaven forbid that America's sports teams should start looking to join in with the rest of the world and look to them for inspiration, eh? Thankfully, his insular and - dare I say pompous? - attitude is one that seems to be slowly dying out in the US sports scene; not just in football/soccer, but elsewhere too.

Like the crest! Any particular reason given for 'Sounders'? It has to do with the fact that the body of water on the Seattle Waterfront is known as the Puget Sound........ Sound ----> Sounders. The entire region of this part of Washington State is known as the Puget Sound Region!! Back in the last rendidtion of the MLS Seattle's Team was also known as the Seattle Sounders, the Crest was different back then it had an Orca Whale with a Soccer Ball. ;D ;D

Ah, I must admit i didn't know those little geographical or historical facts. If that's the case, I approve of 'The Sounders' entirely Just wondering, OG, what're the stadium announcers over there like? I fear for some horribly weak attempts at jokes involving 'sound/sounders' and 'making noise' aimed at getting the crowd going at matches

I'm sure there'll be people trying to get folks to do the wave, it'll be interesting also to see what the draw is like at Qwest field. Tis' an awfully BIG Stadium to fill & if the crowds don't show-up I can see alot more soccer bashing going on around these parts. THE WAVE!!!!

I'm pretty sure Seattle'll get near-capacity crowds though; from what I gather there's been an awful lot of support for the team locally, and - as you say - there's a lot of youngsters getting into the sport. I can't see that they'd have built an enormous stadium if they didn't expect crowds that big

I can't see that they'd have built an enormous stadium if they didn't expect crowds that big Qwest Field is designed with a 67,000 seat capacity, BUT it wasn't built for the Sounders it was built for the Seattle Seahawks the "as you would put it over there" Gridiron Team that plays in the NFL.

Ah, right - so they're basically sharing the stadium? In that case, not reaching capacity wouldn't be such a biggie - not that I suppose non-fans would realise that

Glory-hunter! I'd like to adopt an MLS team as my 'second team', but truth told none of them especially jump out at me. I think I need to see a few games and see whose style of play appeals or something like that. If I were to just pull a team out arbitrarily, I'd probably go with Chivas for now.
