Fulham pounce to land Barnes Giles Barnes is set to join Premier League club Fulham on loan for the rest of the season. Derby County’s attacking midfielder travelled to London last night and was expected to complete his move today. The loan is with a view to a permanent deal. Barnes has recently returned to action following 10 months out with a knee injury he suffered in February last year. He underwent surgery in Colorado and was back in a Derby shirt before Christmas, when he made two appearances as a substitute. New manager Nigel Clough started Barnes in the home defeat by Queens Park Rangers and the FA Cup draw against Nottingham Forest. In between, he scored twice as a substitute against Manchester United at Old Trafford. He looked short of match fitness in his two starts and was an unused substitute in Tuesday’s game at Birmingham. In a recent interview, Barnes said: “I am at Derby but everyone wants to play in the Premiership and go as far as they can in their careers. If that’s with Derby, then great.” Another Derby player who could be on his way out of Pride Park is Emanuel Villa – only a year after joining Derby County in a £2m deal. Uncertainty has surrounded the 26-year-old’s future at the club and there was talk of him returning to South America in the transfer window. Now it seems the Argentinian is attracting interest from Greece and Switzerland. It is likely any move would be a loan with a view to a permanent deal. Villa (pictured below) was signed from Mexican club UAG Tecos by former Rams boss Paul Jewell in January last year and has a contract until 2011. He made 16 appearances in the Premier League and scored three goals but has struggled for a place this season. He has started only one of the last 14 matches – the defeat by Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on December 9. Villa had a run in the side earlier this season and scored six goals, four of them in the Carling Cup, including a hat-trick at Brighton.

Another typical 'The Sun' story: Derby announce they are to offer John Barnes an 8 year contract to replace the outgoing Giles Barnes. The board say they think they can get another player in of the same name which would fool the Derby fans into thinking Giles was still at the club

Derby County have rejected enquiries for three of their key players – Paul Green, Miles Addison and Kris Commons (pictured).
Some fans have criticised the club for allowing Giles Barnes to join Premier League club Fulham on loan with a view to a permanent deal.
Derby feel the Barnes’ move is in the best interests of all parties and say the player wants another opportunity in the Premier League.
But chairman of football Adam Pearson has revealed how interest in other Rams players has been knocked back.
“We have received a number of enquiries from a range of clubs, including Premier League clubs,” said Pearson.
“We have knocked every single one back because they are not in the best footballing interests of the club.”
Striker Emanuel Villa is now unlikely to leave Derby in the transfer window despite interest from clubs in Greece and Switzerland.

Good! the Barnes deal was best for all concerned i reckon - the other decent players in our squad should now knuckle down to get us out of this mess and we should only sell the shite (Teale, McEvely, Davis, Camara etc)

Derby County are set to cancel the contract of defender Mo Camara. Camara has made only three appearances for the Rams this season, all coming in the last month. The 33-year-old left-back joined Derby on a free transfer from Celtic in August 2006. He has played a total of 29 games for the club, scoring once. The former Guinea international has also had loan spells with Norwich City and Blackpool since his arrival at Pride Park. Camara’s current deal was due to expire in June

Nigel Clough has confirmed that Derby have taken Blackburn midfielder Josh O'Keefe on trial until the summer, when a decision will be made on him.
"He is training with us for the rest of the season and then we will make a decision on him."
Clough was talking on skysports.com.
The 20-year-old played in the behind closed doors friendly with Peterborough on Wednesday and now has the chance to impress Clough for the rest of the season as he will be training with the club.
If O'Keefe does impress then he will sign in the summer when his contract with the Premier League side expires, a small fee would be required though.

Hope he does well though, does this mean he can play for us or just train?

Newcastle United are ready to raid Championship side Derby County in a bid to snap up highly-rated Rams midfielder Kris Commons from under the noses of Premiership rivals Wigan Athletic, reports The Daily Star.
The 25-year-old signed for Derby on a free transfer last summer, and after an impressive first-half of the season at Pride Park, was linked with a £2.5 million switch to Newcastle United in the January transfer window.
However, United, and rivals Wigan are now battling out to out-do each other in their respective bids to sign the Scotsman, who has appeared four times for his country on International level.
The Magpies are desperate for a wide player who can play on the right-flank, but are also considering Wolves winger Michael Kightly.

Perth Glory boss Dave Mitchell is keen on Derby County striker Mile Sterjovski.
"I've got a good relationship with him and I did speak to him and we've had negotiations about the possibility, if Derby let him go, about coming here," Mitchell said.
"Going over there and talking to him will be ideal.
"I know the character of the player and he's a very good player.
"It'd be nice to get a marquee player, but you've got to make sure you get the right marquee player.''
