afternoon all
i do enjoy doing a comprehensive write up when ive been to a game, this being my sixth of this well resulted season.
made a friend on my travels ! got talking to a 35 year old ipswich fan, who was much more into ipswich than i am which was strange ! even swapped numbers, and might make travel arrangements to future games together - he like me doesn't have any local ipswich fans to go with, so invites who he can gets - anyway back to the topic !
my main problem with the game was definitely sun level - i don't wear a hat, and for about 65 mins i had to use my programme to be able to view the game ! quite annoying !!!!
we started brightly, and had a good opening 5 minute spell. After that Saints gradually became the better side in the first half but looked a bit short on confidence - they were controlling the game but i wasn't overly worried, to me our defence was very able to deal with anything they threw at us for a change.
ps - first half was a wanky wanky boring half !!!! sum saints fans started fighting to my left, and got turfed out which i found hillarious
2nd half - now this REALLy did perk up. Saints took a MAYBE deserved lead, but again i wasn't THAT worried. we were hardly in 2nd gear by this point, and i thought if we upped it we'd be able to score a couple.
LUCKILY tho we did equalise shortly after, which gave me great delight because sum STUPID C*nt saints fans found it funny to sing about ipswich being a club of prostitutes. Considering their club labelled the game " ladies day... " need i say more.....
Alan Lee and Haynes wasted VERY good chances, ud have expected one to go in. After the equaliser, we definitely had the better of the last half hour. That wasn't to say Saints weren't creating either, because they did have some chances of their own !
Also, it was no coincedence to me that when Miller went off, and Garvan replaced him we were playing much more coherant football.
overall thoughts- well Saints were up for it with the new manager, and i think their fans were quite happy with how they played. I thought at least if we weren't at our fluent best all game, at least every player was very competitive.
Areas for improvement -
LB - still not at all convinced with Harding, who one was or another im sure won't be first choice next season.
Upfront - badly badly require a new forward, Nugent anyone !? Lee's movement wasn't very good at all for me throughout the 90, and let himself get frustrated by a very inept referee( poor for BOTH teams in my opinion)
Pluses - Sumo looks a quality addition.
- Norris' goal - v good ! need more from u in the 90 i think tho, and have no doubt it will come.....
