Whoopee... look who returned to reserve team action today: DEAN BOWDITCH (Winner of the Couldn't-Hit-A-Cow's-Arse-With-A-Banjo Award 3 years running)When Deano scored his goal against QPR, I put my hands up and said "okay, Jim was right to give him a chance". I even posted that view on here. At that point, Dean Bowditch said "now I've scored one, I'm targeting 20 this season". His tally at this point was 1 for the season. 8 months later and Bowditch's tally is.... ...1. I'm not being funny, but all these people saying "give him a chance" - has he not had enough of a chance now? It's been 3 years!! Bowditch complained that it was Joe Royle's fault for not giving him enough games, so Magilton came in, gave him games, and 1 goal has been the result. If we bring Jeffers in permanently next season, we'll have Jeffers, Lee, Walters, Haynes, Clarke and Bowditch. He really won't be needed anymore. Time for Bowditch to go? My verdict is yes, probably in the summer, in the hope that we might get some money from any League One club mad enough to buy him. Never matched expectations after 2003/04. (P.S. Billy Clarke - please, please, don't end up like Bowditch - you started this season in phenomenal form and you've gone ominously quiet since...)

Apparently Klug has revealed that Bowditch could earn a new contract as he's still in the 'Town plans'... He has six weeks to prove his worth. Oh, so a season's shorter than six weeks? Dodgy calenders down at Portman Road... Summer. If he can't score goals even when he's meant to be a striker we're not going to use him, then get rid. I'm sure a League One club would be incredibly grateful

Indeed, Dudette: ipswichtown.rivals.net/default.asp?sid=911&p=2&stid=8443083Bowditch has Town future says Bryan Klug. I think he meant 'Bowditch has SWINDON Town future'. I appreciate what you're saying, bluey, but compare him with Danny Haynes - in truth, Haynes has had less experience than Bowditch, but in 26 appearances this season (of which 23 were from the bench), Haynes has scored 5 times. Now yes, Bowditch has only had 14 appearances, but if he'd shown the same scoring rate as Haynes, he would probably have scored 3 this season. There's no doubt that when he was playing, he wasn't playing as well as Haynes is.

I think if we keep Bowditch, he'd probably struggle to get back into the side. Especially if we do by some minor miracle (I say that because if he does well here, Hughes'll want him back at Blackburn) sign Jeffers. As you say NCA, hopefully we won't have another Bowditch-esque player in Billy Clarke. Although if Clarke doesn't start scoring (if he comes on as a sub) then Bowditch could possibly get a place on the bench...

Oh yes, definately give him one more chance before this season is out. If it comes to nothing, then just try and get rid of him. Or perhaps he'd be better being a midfielder? Na. Maybe if we don't get rid of him before August give him a few pre-season matches to give him a boost of confidence/find some form. But yeah, if we sign Franny Jeffers, then we'll have 4 strikers (plus one who is more of a creative 'I have a good shot on me but will only score occassionally' striker, so it's really 5), then he really would have his work cut out to get back into the side. He promised so much when he was younger, he just seems to have fazed out through injury problems and more strikers coming in to replace him I also think it was unfortunate of him to be a striker here when we had the Kuqi and Bent combo...

Bowditch's hat-trick against Watford in... when was it, 2003, 2004? Whenever it was, let's face it, a bit of a fortunate one. Aside from some goals against Norwich and right at the start of the 2004/05 season (when I actually thought he was really going to come good), he's never really shown us much. IF Alan Lee performs next season like he did this season (except for gallivanting off to Amsterdam and twatting about getting himself suspended for important games)... ...and IF Francis Jeffers stays permanently... ...and IF Francis Jeffers proves to be as good as we know he could be... ...I think we'll have another Kuqi and Bent partnership here. And if we do, knowing that the defence is actually looking pretty good these days, and with us having what I firmly believe is potentially one of the best midfield lines in the division, we might do better than expected next season. Let's not get overexcited, but as we might yet finish this season in the top half, I see no reason why next season we couldn't better it and finish in the top ten at least. ;D This summer will be important, but Magilton might be putting together a top side here. It's gonna take time but if it plays to its full potential (and THAT's gonna be the big problem here), who knows what will happen next season. Yes, that's right... ...we might go down! ;D Lol!

He's getting a good little unit together at the moment, the only weakness I can see is possibly the left back position and perhaps even the goalkeeper. But that's a story for another day. Lee and Jeffers would be a great partenership, and if miracles happen, please let one happen here! I am happy with our midfield: Legwinski - Love the man, and personally I thought he was a good captain against Watford. Garvan - When he performs he can be brilliant, but his first time touches of the ball can be poor. Some tackles can be rash too... Williams - Well, he's not been the same since injury to be honest, but when he's back to 100% fitness, I hope he can be a good player again... Roberts - Slipped a bit in form when he actually signed for us, and when he joined the lot in Amsterdam... Well, he needs to prove his worth, only slightly, but still needs to prove it. Richards - Ahh, Richards. I'm one of your er... smallest fans, but as long as you can score goals and hold up the ball well, I'm happy Peters - I completely love Peters. He's quick, he can go ROUND defenders and he can, some what amazingly for a Town player; jump! It's just a shame we couldn't sign Mark Noble, then I would really be grinning. We've not had a settled strike partenership since the Kuqi and Bent days. 05/06 season we went through God knows how many different combonations, due to injury and bad luck. And this season it's been mainly suspensions... If we can sort out this disciplinary record next season, have a better bit of luck (or somehow get better officials ) then I'm sure we can finish somewhere higher up on this league. We have the potential, it's just whether we can get it out of us!

There's the potential there, if Jeffers can somehow get Lee kick started then it could happen

jeffers can get Lee kickstarted !?!?!? i think everyone is forgetting how fantastic Lee has been ! 16 league goals i think by a player who admits he's NOT an out / out forward!!!!!! being honest aint sure quite how much i want franny 2 sign injury prone.......wages........... COULD be a bloody good one tho n another subject - the GOAL MACHINE that is Dean Bowditch nets on his return for the reserves hehe more importantly Rhodes nets 2 = he looks shit hot !

Ah, but sometimes his performances can be lazy, and frustratingly he doesn't stay on his feet enough. He can squander a cracking chance by stumbling over when there's been absolutely minimal contact (therefore we don't get a penalty, everyone gets annoyed). But, yes he can score goals. HOWEVER, when Jeffers came on, can't remember when, but he came on and he and think it was Lee, might've been Walters looked a dangerous partenership. So, if you can start with them, and then bring on Haynes nearer the end or perhaps even half time. Lee's more of a poacher, slotting in headers/close range chances. The goal machine returns! Yeah! Rhodes is looking in fine form! I reckon, because Clarke's not really in that much form, we should give Rhodes a chance before the season ends. Possibly against Norwich, we all know how much our youth loves going there ;d Can't our reserves win the title on an even more different note?
