Darren Currie is flying out to the United States on Wednesday for a two week trial with David Beckham's LA Galaxy. The 32-year-old midfielder, who is out of contract at Portman Road at the end of the season, has been out of the Town side for much of this campaign following the emergence of Jaime Peters and the arrival of Gary Roberts. He had a spell on loan at Coventry and looked set to join the Midlanders on a permanent deal in January but Micky Adams' departure as the Sky Blues' boss and other factors conspired against the move. Now Town boss Jim Magilton has given Darren the green light to fly to the States after contact was made recently by Galaxy coach, former Blues' favourite, Frank Yallop. The MLS side will be the home of David Beckham in the summer with the former England skipper pledging his future to the club in a blaze of glory recently. Breaking the news to the Club website, Jim said: "Darren has not played as much football as he would have liked this season and is out of contract here in the summer. "He's been a model professional in his time at Ipswich and when the request was made for him to go out there, we couldn't stand in his way. "It's an exciting opportunity for him and he will go out to LA for two weeks and see how he gets on and we'll take it from there." I find that amusing!

I find it amusing because Beckham's going there, and because they have some similar qualities, if he gets signed there then he'll be battling with someone of his kind of ability instead of battling it out with a load of youngsters! I think that he's had it tough getting back into the team though, with Peters pace and ability to get in between defenders, he has every right to. He's played, if my memory's correct, during this month of not scoring, and we've not. But, he's one of the culprites in the 'faffing around the penalty box' area, as is our strike force and most of our midfield. The problem is, he can supply the crosses, but if we don't have someone strong enough or tall enough to bang in his crosses. We've lacked that this season, De Vos hasn't been up there, Lee's form has gone up and down and his parteners are continually switched around. We just need a consistent side, but due to our ridiculous discplinary record and the loanees earlier in the season, it's not happened. Once it's settled (and it may or may not have Currie in it), then maybe we can start banging in the goals again

I think Jim's trying to build a side for the future (which is annoying, due to Norwich winning last night and therefore moving us too close for comfort to that dreaded drop), and I think because Currie is becoming slower (still supplying crosses etc...) I think Jim wants to go with the younger legs, to give them some experience for the future seasons. And it's probably only Currie because we do have the midfielders to replace him, it can't happen in the defence because, well, we haven't got any spare and our strikers are either non-exsistent or young.
I'd give him a few games, see if he makes an impact.
