Yorkshire Radio Station Director, Ben Fry, has today announced the arrival of Richard Stead, Michael Weadock and Thom Kirwin to join the Yorkshire Radio team in time for the station’s launch on July 10th on DAB Digital Radio and on line at Yorkshireradio.net.
Norton-born Richard Stead joins the station from the Local Radio Company, where he has been working for stations across the county for over a decade, including Minster FM in York, Stray FM in Harrogate, Home FM in Huddersfield and Yorkshire Coast Radio on the East Coast.
Richard will be Programme Controller of Yorkshire Radio and will be presenting a daily show on the Station between 3pm and 6pm.
Richard says: “I am delighted to take on a new challenge and combine my love of sport, radio and Yorkshire”.
Michael Weadock joins as Yorkshire Radio’s Leeds United commentator. Michael arrives at Elland Road from Boro TV where he has been match commentator on Middlesbrough for the last five years, following them in the Premiership and in Europe.
Ben Fry said: “It’s great to have a commentator on board with Premiership experience, which could come in handy!”
Horsforth lad, Thom Kirwin, a life-long Leeds United fan, joins Yorkshire Radio as chief sports correspondent. He will be following the day-to-day events at Elland Road and sport in the county including football, rugby, racing and cricket.

· Yorkshire Radio will be going live on air from Elland Road on DAB Digital Radio and on line at yorkshireradio.net on July 10th.
· The station will broadcast music from The Kinks to The Kaiser Chiefs with a wide music database from the 1960’s to now.
· The station will follow Leeds United home and away and the fortunes of Yorkshire clubs plus racing, cricket and rugby for around the county
· The station will also reflect life in the county with news, events and entertainment from around the region.
