A poll with 5000 is actually quite a large number. Many opinion polls during elections use a sample of around 1000, often 800 or 900. Obviously, being a survey it will not be entirely accurate, but the general order and numbers are probably a fairly good representation. Anomalies may exist: for instance, the Sheffield Wednesday fans may be too embarrassed to say (to answer a point above). But if you asked 5000 people at the Walkers Stadium who was best, its going to be just as 'right' as this one. Political allegience is not as restricted to area as football support. Would have had to ask 5000 people from all over the country to get a 'fair' reading. I would be surprised if the went any further south-west than Birmingham to get opinions. You can prove anything with facts. Can't we just take Man U from the poll and split their votes among teams that have beaten Reading this year? Interesting point. If "you asked 5000 people at the Walkers Stadium who was best", you might get a different result. But its probable that the sampling was more sophisticated. My point here, is does anyone have any objective evidence why this survey is inaccurate. Unless there is a rational, objective reason this is the best evidence available. And the evidence for the top of the table is consistent with a number of other studies, so the questions are all about the lower clubs (;D).

Not so much objective reasoning, more suspicious of the figures. These figures show that HALF of the country support one of these twenty teams. Plus, I think it doesn't take into account the people who can't stand football, and I would have liked to see the data of WHERE people were polled, and what question was asked. (Out of these thirty teams, which is your favourite or What team d'ya follow). Man U having as many fans as any two teams added together? *shrugs* I know a few Man U fans that have started to drift. I cannot dispute that the table would look roughly the same as this though.
