that scoreline doesn't do what a suberp performance this was from Leicester justice. The stats do a little more:
Shots - Leicester 22 : 6 Coventry
Shots on Target Leicester 13 : 3 Coventry
I can only remember 1 decent chance for Coventry, which was created by a defensive error; this was the most complete performance I have seen from Leicester for a very long time. Superb. From a team that couldn't score except from set pieces 2 this - the contrast was unbelievable.
What a difference it makes having players in position, actually having a midfield, and 2 very exciting wingers. We played some brilliant stuff yesterday, had some very very good chances and could easily have won by many more. I am happy!
Each of the 6 debutants played very well and this fills me with great confidence that we can build on this, rise the table and hopefully do something more next year.
Think I will split MOTM between Laczko and Oakley, both were brilliant. No offence to Leeds or Derby but I am so so happy we have Oakley over Johnson or Savage. He dominated the midfield yesterday and had some real quality. Linked up well with Clemence. Johnson has a talent but is a risk.
Alnwick 6.5 - Nothing to do, wasn't tested at all. 1 mix up courtesy of Stearman but massive kicking! Could have brought his sunlounger.
Stearman 6 - weakest link. Defensive error nearly cost us and only member of the team resorting to hoofing it. But dealt with his man well. Linked up ok with Bori.
McAuley 8 - dominating performance at centreback and a great saving tackle
Kisnorbo 7.5 - solid as ever.
Mattock 7.5 - best I've seen of him. Defensively sound and got forward too.
Bori 7 - Very good debut. Grew into the game. Has a very sweet right foot, put in some beautiful balls and nearly scored a brilliant goal.
Clemence 8 - Best I have seen of Clem. Worked extremely well with Oakley and the 2 of them completely dominated the centre of the park
* Oakley 9 - Magnificent debut. Brought the best out of Clemence. Got forward, had a great shot. An integral part of the build up in our attacking movements. Finally I hope we have a player worthy of filling the boots left by Muzzy Izzett.
*Laczko 9 - Another brilliant debut. Wow this lad looks exciting. Stunning crosses and through balls (inlcuding the 1 to Howard) with his left foot. Great range of passing and absolutely murdered Coventry's right back [Osbourne?] who had a torrid game. Could have had a hat trick though with 3 dismal efforts from very good chances. Derservedly got a standing ovation when subbed towards the end. The Hungarian Ronaldo. ;d
Howard 7 - Won a lot of headers, worked well with Hume and a very well taken goal. Perhaps not as good as some of the others but he did well.
Hume 8.5 - Played very well off Howard and looked a real threat. Had multiple chances to get a goal, it just didn't work out. He was at his very best though, and on this evidence merits place alongside Howard over Fryatt or DJ.
Subs:
Hayles 8- On 10 minutes but terrific they were. A composed finish which ironically was a similar chance Fryatt missed a few weeks back. Caused Coventry many problems.
Weso - n/a not on long enough.
Ollie 9- Some great new signings, players in position, no messing with the formation and exciting attacking football. No complaints from me on the basis of today and if these 6 signings are evidence of what is to come over the next few years then its an exciting time!
There have been many many false dawns here over the years but please please let this be the start of a slow slow build to slowly climb the table and actually do something next year! ]
Very happy!
