I can honestly say I couldn't give 2 flying fucks if we lose this game, providing a) its not heavy and b) we pick up no cards and injuries. Money making from it isn't a big issue for us anymore and we're not going to win the FA Cup. Its not a glamour tie (no offence Southampton) but we'll msot probably lose anyway. If we lose then at least it may provide some realism that the players we have are as crap as the league position suggests. I am fed up of us beating Premiership opposition in the cup or playing extremely well and pushing them very close, often away from home only for us to return to league football against far inferior opposition, lose and play like 11 chickens who have had an unfortunate incident with a guillotine. I have no belief that a good performance and/or result tomorrow would lead to better performances in the league so its a pointless exercise really. We won't win it anyway and if we get through I think Blackpool away would have to be moved to a weeknight which would be a shame because I may consider going if we get some decent signings and improve. So Saints away. Saints 3 Leicester 1 my prediction and I take pleasure in the fact that I am going to do something tomorrow (don't know what yet ) and not worry about listening to this, or the result. Hopefully Howard and Hayles can use it as an opportunity to fit in with some of the hopeless players around them.

I suspect Rich is somewhat concerned given Saint's inconsistency. But if we did win this I would be furious that the same players can be so crap on most occasions in the league. Plus it won't have a positive impact on the next game no matter how much Ollie and the club may say that it might.
I think we probably quite comfortably have the best record in the cups outside the prem over the last 3 years, in terms of performances and results but we keep fighting relegation battles.

Its a bitter attitude probably, and I do obviously want us to win. But its not a game I'm going to get worked up about is what I'm trying to say. I'll just enjoy the weekend.

Sign up a decent young wide player and that'd help.

He often plays in centre midfield for Northampton. Didn't you hear, we're interested in Tony Capaldi!

So are you actually getting him then? If he's not interested in joining us then he can go somewhere else really. I know a bit about Northampton - seen them a couple of times and I work in Northants...which actually involves reading the local paper! He's a decent player, has a wicked [insert side here] foot and supports the strikers well. He has had some outstanding performances for the cobblers. But on the other hand he is inconsistent. he can follow it up with performances where he's non existant for the game and struggles to make a huge impression; but he is in a poor side. He's very young but if a manager can develop him and get the most out of his evident qualities, I think he can do well.

He's been withdrawn from their squad for tomorrow, unsurprisingly! Been to Sixfields? You should go down for the Leeds game, we'd see you there!

I'm sure thats a reasonable enough assessment Rich.
Hopeless, clueless and spineless probably sum up the team most. They really are pathetic, not world beaters, sure; maybe they aren't good enough to stay up but the least they can do is show a bit of pride, passion and commitment - at least to let Southampton know they have been in a game but yet again they don't. Disgusting.
Ollie is quite good at identifying problems with the team, the squad and performance after a game but it isn't happening. Fact is, he is now our longest serving manager of the season and he is getting even less out of the players than any of his predecessors this season, and that does say something. We're still absolute rubbish going forward but where has the decent defence gone!?!?! You may be able to identify problems in the squad Ollie, but regardless of the player's qualities there is no excuse for not competing, being 2nd to the ball all the time, giving the opposition so much time on the ball, and resorting to useless hoof balls because the players can't be arsed to create any other options. Weso's post-match interview - concentrate on the league and big game v local rivals Cov next week - maybe but at least show some anger or shame at what went on down there - what about the people who paid to watch it!?!?
Game started with 5 defenders, 1 midfielder and 4 strikers with players out of position all over the place. It continued that way even with the changes. 1st post in the transfer window thread I said we needed to prioritise midfielders. It is so clearly the major problem. Hume and Fryatt are capable in this league. I think Howard will be useful. Can't see the point in Hayles. But we need 3, at least, quality midfielders and its so simple. So enough going in for mediocre strikers (Pericard, Hayles) and sort out the position where we are so chronically poor. Kavanagh would be a start but we need wingers too. Sadly we need a goalkeeper too, but I don't think we should blow our budget on Fulop; loan someone not getting games in the Prem.
If he can't spend £4-5million in this Jan and buy our safety then he needs looking at in March. Its that simple. But we need stability and if he can lift us clear, we need to stick with him and have a new start next year.

You probably have more chance of being in the championship next year anyway. Yes I have been. Its quite a new ground; no pillars obstructing views or anything but its very small and feels quite open. Its on the edge of town on a leisure complex which is quite handy for the motorway and main roads I guess, parking, and if you want to want to eat but its not a particularly good feel. Its almost next to Franklin Gardens, the rugby ground which is much better. Same day as Leicester play Plymuff which could be either very tasty or highly depressing.
