Cobblers manager Stuart Gray says he will not stand in the way of Bradley Johnson should the midfielder today agree terms with Coca-Cola Championship club Leicester City. Johnson didn't play for Town in their 1-1 draw with Millwall at Sixfields yesterday, but was at the game. Today, though, the 20-year-old was at the Walkers Stadium to discuss personal terms after the Cobblers accepted what is thought to be a record offer for the player they snapped up on a free transfer from Cambridge in 2005. The Chron understands a deal which could rise to the £500,000-mark after incentives and add-ons has been agreed with Foxes boss Ian Holloway, though Leicester are not the only club in the hunt for Johnson, who has scored five goals from central midfield this season. Coventry City boss Iain Dowie is a keen admirer, but the Sky Blues have put a block on any transfer activity until Thursday. Colchester United and Queens Park Rangers are also both interested, and Gray says he will not hinder the career progression of a youngster who now looks bound for the championship. "The final decision will not be mine or the chairman's," said Gray. "It will be Bradley's. "We've received a very substantial offer from a championship club and all parties agreed that we wouldn't play him against Millwall in case he picked up an injury. "There are a number of clubs interested in Bradley and there is a fair bit of interest. "He wants to talk to other clubs andI don't think we can stop Bradley from talking to a championship club because it is a step up for the boy and also because it is a very good offer for Northampton." Gray conceded he does not really want to sell Johnson, but a six-figure offer would be simply too good to refuse, especially as it could facilitate the purchase of three or four other new players. The manager – who nearly sold Johnson to Stevenage for £15,000 in his first week at Sixfields – hasn't ruled out having the player in his squad for the game at Elland Road this weekend. "We're in negotiations with two or three clubs and it's a case of waiting to see if anyone comes in with a bigger offer," he said. "We don't want to lose him but he's in a very nice position to have clubs after him. "You never know, it might not go through, and we might have him available for selection for the Leeds game on Saturday." _ _ _ _ _ _ From what I've seen and heard of him at Northampton, although he is a little inconsistent he's a great talent and I reckon would be a good signing! Mind you, the last player we got from the cobblers, Josh Low was absolute cack!

Leicester boss Ian Holloway is ready to make Cardiff's Tony Capaldi his first signing. (Daily Mirror) No great surprises there....I suspect being brought in to play left midfield if this is true. Bit worrying that Cardiff fans think he is lazy and not too good though. I heard that whilst I was in Cardiff over New Year too. Sorry Geo, but I cannot tell you how much that would make me laugh! I was thrilled to see him go, the freeloading lazy waste of space, just resentful for how good he thought he was as he sold us down the river. At least he and Hollowords would have some shared values!

Hayles will do a good job for you. Just what you need, I suspect. Yes, but not every game and not like he did for us last year. He hasn't found the same level or even close this season. Dead wood we will let go to Leicester, and even this one sounds like over the asking price - 50k more than we paid for him?

Hmmm that doesn't sound too good PASTIE, and pretty much what tha Carrrrdiff fans were saying about him at the time of the rumour. Thankfully I've not heard his name mentioned since so hopefully it won't happen. I don't think he'll improve our team, which is saying something! Today's news: Ollie says he is close to signing 3 more players before the weekend that I suspect to be: Graham Kavanagh Bardley Johnson Tony Capaldi / Lee Martin (Man U winger he had on loan at Plymuff) However... The Northants ET say today that another club has come in for Johnson and that he'll be playing for Northampton on Saturday. So that may not be so simple. Ollie also had a rant today on SSN about the big teams in the Prem keeping hold of all their young players in case they have injuries when the transfer window isn't open. Could be a reference to Martin. Other players these 3 may involve are the trialists at the club at the minute and possibly a goalkeeper, which sadly looks less likely to be Fulop by the day.

OK I'll chip in my latest negative vibe. Sorry Geo...
Lee Martin is rated by most Argyle fans but I've no desire to see him stay. An arrogant little showboater who has mouthed his way into 5 bookings in 11 games and wasteful with the ball. Occasionally brilliant, but don't like his attitude. We barracked him for Stoke last year and he hasn't changed.
Pericard?
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ;D We were so glad that Pulis took him to Stoke when he went. Lazy and unreliable, another bad attitude.
sorry mate, I promise to be positive when I know something good about someoone!

Thats alright! Thankfully neither of them, or Capaldi have come into fruition yet, so its hopefully just some of the inevitable media talk and speculation. Things that have happened over the past couple of days: Lacko Zsolt - in on loan from Olympiakos til the end of the season. Don't know much about him to be honest but he is a winger so rejoice we have 1 now in our squad of over 40! Gabor Bori - in on loan from MTK Hungaria FC on loan until the end of the season. Again don't know anything about him but Ollie has had good experiences of Hungarian players in Buzsaky, Halmosi and Fulop, so hopefully these 2 can continue that trend. Another despertately needed midfielder so thats good. At least we had them on trial so should know what they can do unlike the supposed 'international footballers' of Kaebi and Ferreira. Those 2, and their signings were a joke. Ben Alnwick - England U21 goalkeeper on loan from spurs until the end of the season. V happy about this, he sounds like he is very hungry and wants to prove himself. Fulop was great but we can't afford £3mill on a goalkeeper when other areas of the pitch are so desperate for us. Really hope he can do well. England, England's NUMBER 1! Jonathon Hayes - gone on loan to Northampton til the end of the season. Yes, our only winger before the new signings but he isn't up to playing at this level yet, plain and simple. Hopefully the experience will be good for him. Other things developing according to the Leicester Mercury: Isiah Osbourne - to come here on loan for 1 month from Aston Villa. Short period but he's scored against us last season so hopefully he is good. Darren Kenton - Leeds apparently interested. Yay! Snap their bloody arm's off (particularly Dennis's ) . He is deadwood. So current situation: IN:Steve Howard (striker) from Derby - £1.5 million - 3.5 year contract Barry Hayles (striker) from Plymouth - undisclosed fee - 1.5 year contract Lascko Zsolt (midfielder) on loan from Olympiakos until the end of the season. Ben Alnwick (goalkeeper) on loan from Tottenham Hotspur until the end of the season. Gabor Bori (midfielder) on loan from MTK Hungaria FC until the end of the season. OUT:Eric Odihambo (midfielder/striker) on loan to Dundee United for the rest of the season. Marton Fulop (goalkeeper) recalled from season-long loan by Sunderland Jonathon Hayes (midfielder) on loan to Northampton Town until the end of the season. BIDS:Marton Fulop (goalkeeper) £1 million from Leicester to Sunderland - REJECTED BY SUNDERLAND Graham Kavanagh (midfielder) - Sunderland Bradley Jonhson -£300k bid from Leicester to Northampton - ACCEPTED - negotiating personal terms David Norris (midfielder) - £1.2 million bid from Leicester rejected by Plymouth Argyle. PLAYERS MADE AVAILABLE FOR FREE:Rab Douglas Jimmy Nielsen Hossein Kaebi Alan Maybury Sergio Hellings Carl Cort Elvis Hammond A lot of loanees, we must have some money left. I would like to see a decent experienced central midfielder come in. Kavanagh ideally. The Johnson deal seems dead in the water. You look at how Gera plays for WBA and Buzsaky for QPR and you realise how important it is we get a decent midfielder in. But as it is we will probably have 6 players making their home debut on Saturday which shows how dire the situation was.

Kishishev is coming back too when his loan spell expires.
I would suspect he is more likely to get a game for us ironically.
Don't think he can ever be more than a squad player for us but he's a better alternative in midfield than Kenton, Maybury, Mattock, Chambers, Fryatt and some of the other misplaced goons that have been playing midfield of late.

So never a dull day at Leicester (apart from the matchdays! ;d) with more developments today. We've signed Matt Oakley from Derby for £500k plus add ons. Bit out of the blue this one but I think he is just the sort of midfielder we need to get out of this league. will give us much needed presence in the middle of the park. And he is on emergency loan for a day so I'll see him tomorrow! 6 home debuts likely tomorrow haha. Wish we'd learn about giving stupidly long contracts though, he is no spring chicken! Plus Carl Cort has had his contract terminated by mutual consent! Wooo! No more signings please Ollie til we get rid of some of the crap. Current situation: IN:Steve Howard (striker) from Derby - £1.5 million - 3.5 year contract Barry Hayles (striker) from Plymouth - undisclosed fee - 1.5 year contract Lascko Zsolt (midfielder) on loan from Olympiakos until the end of the season. Ben Alnwick (goalkeeper) on loan from Tottenham Hotspur until the end of the season. Gabor Bori (midfielder) on loan from MTK Hungaria FC until the end of the season. Matt Oakley - Good championship midfielder, likes to get forward but by no means a dominating force in the middle. Played his best football with Seth Johnson doing the dirty work for him so you'll need a ball-winner! he'll get you some goals, he's a good passer and he leaves with our best wishes - but dont expect him to get you promoted (not this season anyway)

Cheers mate. Hmmm sounds like the sort of midfielder we need to be honest. Clemence and Wesolowski can do the battling stuff, but we've been crying out for creative midfielders to support the strikers so hopefully he can do the business.

January 14th. Substantial 7 figure bid from a Premier League club rejected for Joe Mattock by Leicester. I'd like to sell Mattock one day, a talented young English player, could be worth a lot. Played well Saturday but has been average this season. If we can develop him a bit more we could really cash in with some big money in a year's time. Hold onto him longer. Shaun Newton's contract terminated by mutual consent. Good! Forgot we had him! Couple of more developments. Its like being in a sewer, some crap goes out one end but a heap more is coming in the other direction. Jimmy Nielsen has left the club by mutual consent. What a waste of £230k he was. Saw him play once, in a friendly v Notts County and he was crap. Didn't get to play for the first team and I suspect 'mutual agreement' means he has had his contract paid up. Thanks Allen. Collins John's loan has been cancelled...gone back to Fulahm only to go to Watford. Lazy, good riddance. And Leeds have returned Kish and De Vries to us. Kish can be back up to the first team. De Vries would be no more than 8th choice striker, but no sod would buy him just like half the others! Aagggh!! And the Osbourne deal is dead, MON has too many injuries at Villa. Matt Oakley (midfielder) from Derby - £500,000 + add ons - 3.5 year contract. Radostin Kishishev (midfielder) from Leeds - loan deal ended. Mark De Vries (midfielder) from Leeds - loan deal ended. Alex Cisak (goalkeeper) on loan to Tamworth until the end of the season Darren Kenton (defender) on loan to Leeds for 1 month. Carl Cort (striker) - contract terminated by mutual consent. Shaun Newton (midfielder) - contract terminated by mutual consent. Collins John (striker) - loan deal cancelled - gone back to Fulham, then to Watford. Jimmy Nielsen (goalkeeper) - contract terminated by mutual consent. BIDS:Marton Fulop (goalkeeper) £1 million from Leicester to Sunderland - REJECTED BY SUNDERLAND Graham Kavanagh (midfielder) - Sunderland Bradley Jonhson -£300k bid from Leicester to Northampton - ACCEPTED but did not agree personal terms.
