Immediately after the game yesterday I wasn't impressed at all, same old Leicester conceding a goal in the last minute to throw away 2 points. But after reflecting I don't think the result was all that bad, we certainly would've taken it 6 weeks ago and for me it is another nail in Kelly's coffin from Milan's point of view.
We did exactly what we did against Luton at home, scored a goal in the first ten minutes and then took the foot of the gas, became less creative and expansive and looked a whole lot more restrained as a team.
When we took the lead for the second time, at which point the match should well and truly have been wrapped up, Kelly started messing with the team, trying to play the time out by making substitutions which seemingly had no obvious point and failed to have any positive impact whatsoever. I honestly don't think he'll ever learn that it doesn't work and just succeeds in interrupting our rhythm.
When we went 2-1 the display was awful, we should've played keep ball and passed it along the floor, instead we stuck all of our men behind the play and invited Southend onto us. This negativity, coupled with our refusal to commit players in support of attacks lead to an inevitable equaliser and a bitter taste left for the journey home.
Result? Two points blatantly thrown away.
Our central midfield was totally anonymous, it's no wonder that Jarrett was surplus to requirements at Preston.
What the hell was Hughes doing on the right wing again? We have a nice little run, picking up wins on the way when he's out of the team and then as he comes back in we start drawing. Coincidence?
Kelly's decision to take Levi off instead of demanding he get some ball supply was a disgrace. Yeates looked lost on the left and had one, just one, half decent run. Kelly would've been far better taking Hughes off and playing Yeates and Porter in their proper positions, rather than having two wingers looking like fish out of water.
Southend played really good football at times, highlighted our inept midfield and attackers and we avoided conceding a minimum of four only from two more outstanding saves by Henderson.
Horsfield was shocking, his ball control is laughable and he was totally and utterly ineffective, failing to score with a free header from three yards.
RK's summary pissed me right of as well.
"But I suppose it shows how far we have come in such a short space of time. We have come away from home and got a point - although it feels like a defeat.
Drawing to a team second bottom, who've lost 18 games including the last three, when they played the better all around football! So where the hell have we progressed from?
He should be furious, both in private and somewhat more than disappointed in public that we play so badly away from home with a non-existent midfield and to throw away a lead twice is unforgivable.
It's good to show respect to the other team but to be so complacent about drawing, ruthless is a word he casually throws in, well that should be rammed down all their throats until they get the message that draws and defeats against teams at the bottom and on losing runs to boot are not good enough.
I don't want to rant much longer, so I will say that I had a fantastic day out, a good turn out from the Blue Army and a fantastic atmosphere generated. Chant of the day has to be one directed to Freddy Eastwood, 'The wheels on his house go round and round.' It did bring a smile to my face![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)
The club finally has direction and leadership now with Milan at the helm, the same can't be said for affairs on the pitch and in the dressing room. Kelly Out.
