Firstly Rob Kelly is a joke - the team selection yesterday was a disgrace, there is no other word for it. Here's some fairly harsh but honest opinions about the crock of shite he played yesterday.
Henderson - He is NOT a good goalkeeper, there was a reason he only played for Bradford. The unfortunate thing is that we've got him until 2009
McAuley - He isn't a right back, that experiment has clearly not worked Rob. With McAuley at right back and Maybury at left back we've conceded 9 goals in 3 games yet you can bet your bottom dollar that these two will still be in place next week. He is a quality centre back so let's play him in position to see what happens eh Rob?
McCarthy © - A disaster waiting to happen each and every time he pulls on the shirt. He's passionate which I commend him for but giving him the captain's armband was the worst decision possible, he is no more of a captain than Junior Lewis ever was. He should be nowhere near the first team of any professional football club - I just wish Rob Kelly would wake up and see that McAuley is quite considerably the better player.
Kisnorbo - Doesn't look the same next to Paddy McCarthy I'm afraid. Usually solid as a rock with McAuley but the manager is the only one out of 20,000+ who can't see it
Maybury - Utterly useless. Doesn't help that he's being played out of position but is still crap at right back.
Hughes - Inconsistency personified. Play him in the middle Rob, you know square pegs in round holes does not work.
Wesolowski - I feel really sorry for Jimbo, he's career has been ruined by our club, no two ways about it. It has been ruined by the clueless inept management of this Club rushing him back from two broken legs in sheer desperation.
Williams - If the club is still alive next season at least this waster won't be around. No doubting he has talent but it doesn't hurt to put yourself about does it?!
Porter - Looking worse and worse each game that goes by. Doesn't look like he can cut it at this level to be honest.
Hume - Is a Championship striker at best, and is frustratingly inconsistent.
Fryatt - Getting back to what we're used to but will do himself no favours hanging around with the rest of the shit we've got if he wants to achieve something in his career.
Subs
Johnson - I'm sure you all know my opinion on this guy already, basically he's shite.
Logan - Great keeper, should be between the sticks at #1 for me.
Stearman - A talent wasted, and wasted again by our clueless management.
Cadamarteri - Fat, slow and unfit.
Hammond - Shite.
Positive comments about what, 3 out of 16 players?!
My main gripe is firstly playing players out of position. We have three right backs - Kenton, Stearman and Maybury, yet we choose to play arguably our best centre back at right back. It's simple Rob, choose the right back who is fittest and most able to play the way you want to.
Same with left backs, we have three of those too - Sheehan, Nils and Tiatto, yet we choose to play a right back there. It's simple Rob, choose the left back who is fittest and most able to play the way you want to.
Square pegs in square holes Rob, it's not rocket science!
Next, the bench from yesterday is quite frankly ridiculous.
Johnson Logan Stearman Cadamarteri Hammond.
3 of the players on that bench are not even match fit, we're conceding initiative before we've even kicked off. There is no surprise element to the team selection or the options available on the bench, all Rob can do is replace known with known.
My arguement is to look at the natural fluidity and talent in the academy rather than these prima donas.
Just look who we've got waiting in the wings:
Billy McKay 14 in 17 games.
Andy King 8 in 17 games from midfield
Max Gradel 12 in 17 from the wing.
McKay is quite a lightweight striker. But he's quick, has good feet and great instincts close to goal. Not an easy guy to mark and links up very well with players who can feed their passes on the ground like most of his Academy colleagues.
He strikes me as needing a bit of strength yet to be a first team candidate. Certainly he's got the skills to hurt defenders, no question, but he's another who might benefit now from reserves-type football and it just isn't there.
Gradel deserves mention too because this is the second season he's breezed into double figures goals-wise and, for a genuine wide-out winger that's some going.
King's ability to notch goals is starting to impress me more though. I don't think much to quite a few teams that the under 18s play against but to score with the regularity that he is doing from central midfield is impressive.
It's time these three were given a chance, break the mould Rob, live on the edge a bit - what harm can it do? Let's face it, we're already resigned to the fact that Milan's gone and we won't exist next season. At least lets go out with a bang eh?
