Birmingham Match Postponed
LCFC vs Birmingham
Leicester City's Championship match with Birmingham tomorrow evening has been postponed.
A major clear-up operation began this morning (Friday) after gale-force winds yesterday uplifted part of the roof of the neighbouring Express by Holiday Inn with roof debris landing on the Walkers Stadium brickweave.
However, following a meeting with the Safety Advisory Group, the City Council's Building Control Services, and the Emergency Services this afternoon, the decision was taken to postpone the match on health and safety grounds.
A rearranged date for the game will be confirmed in due course.
A Council spokesperson said: "Our building inspectors were on site very quickly on Thursday afternoon, but detailed inspections of the remaining roof were only possible once the weather conditions improved. "It became clear this morning that the remaining roof is quite badly damaged and needs considerable work to make it safe. "We have been liaising with the Holiday Inn, Leicester City, building contractors and the emergency services.
"However, the work will not be complete for the road to be re-opened in time for the game tomorrow. "Accordingly, a decision to postpone the match has been made in the interests of the safety of spectators. "We will continue to ensure the owners make the building safe so that the road can be re-opened as soon as possible."
City Chief Executive Tim Davies added: "We are extremely disappointed as I am sure that all our fans will be that the match has had to be postponed.
"Unfortunately the hotel building is still not secure and we are informed that if the gusts of wind continue then debris could fly down from the roof onto the road and cause serious safety issues.
"This means that the highway will be closed as well as the access to our stadium from main reception to the away supporters.
"Furthermore, this also causes access and emergency contingency issues and therefore there was no option but to postpone the game."
Tickets will remain valid for the rearranged match while supporters who are now unable to attend can exchange their match ticket for an alternative home league game this season or claim a full refund from the Ticket Office from Monday, January 22 onwards but please be aware there still may be access issues to the Ticket Office and Megastore on this day.

Haha! Suddenly laying their pitch seems like the worst thing they could ever have done. 2 successive league games postponed and in the middle of a possible cup run....fixture congestion awaits...'ave it Brum!
