Luton defender Markus Heikkinen looks set to miss the remainder of the season after suffering a compound fracture of his leg against Birmingham on Friday. The Finland international was carried off after 56 minutes after a challenge with Blues striker Fabrice Muamba as the Hatters were held to a 2-2 draw. And manager Mike Newell said: "Markus has suffered a compound fracture of the fibula and it's a bit of a sickener. "It's a big blow because we have lost him for the rest of the season." The injury added to the Hatters' misery as they were denied victory against the league leaders by Neil Danns' injury-time leveller. And Newell admits his side may struggle to recover from the blow, saying: "I'm sure the lads will be affected by it. "But they are down enough as it is because of the last five minutes without Markus' injury. "It's a real sickener for us but we'll just have to regroup and get ourselves up for Monday's match against Cardiff." Poor bloke You've not had the best of luck with injuries this season have you

I've almost given up caring about injuries, if we have less than ten lasting more than four weeks in any season then we're doing well! This one is a real sickener though

The injury is now being reported as 'not a broken leg', although it is serious and he may be out for several weeks.
** sighs of relief **

Strange isn't it, Dudette?
I believe it was the Birmingham club doctor who diagnosed a compound fracture before he was taken to hospital.
TEAMtalk is reporting this: "Although the Finland international did not break his leg during Friday's 2-2 draw at Birmingham, as Luton had first feared, the injury is still likely to leave him on the sidelines for a lengthy spell."

A 'lengthy spell' is better than the rest of the season, at least!

Hi Neko !! From: TEAMtalk Heikkinen's treatment has been successful and Newell hopes to have his influential player back in action long before the season ends. ... "it was a bad gash which he has had cleaned out and there is no break". Good news!
