Former Luton player Iain Dowie is being lined up to replace Mike Newell as Hatters boss after his recent disputes with chairman Bill Tomlins (News of the World)
From BBC site
For the sake of discussion, what do we make of this?
Personally, if this goes ahead, I'll be calling for the board members responsible to step down. Newell is arguably the best manager we've had in over a decade, and the board have stated they're behind him. You don't sack a manager after the sort of results he's produced, especially after you've explicitly stated you wouldn't - with a stab in the back like that, the fans and players would lose faith, and I can't see any incoming manager exactly trusting them either.
I wouldn't get on Dowie's back, mind - he is a good manager, and it'd hardly be his fault. The club could expect my support regardless, as has always been the case.

I think it would be a terrible mistake for you guys if you get rid of Newell, he's a first rate manager, and your loss would only be another clubs gain that you'd be regretting for years. As you say it would also mean that the board members would undermime their position considerably, which could have serious consequences on future staff. IMO Dowie is not a good manager! Don't do it!

Even with Dowie, I don't think the post-match interviews would be half as interesting Newell's better than Dowie without a shadow of a doubt, but he'd be better than, say, Hoddle or either of your disasters earlier this season I know you can't really trust the newspaper gossip columns anyway, so I'm quite hopeful it's just a rumour, but I guess we'll see. The local rag today is certainly taking a great interest in it, recalling all sorts of old rumours regarding Newell and the board - at least they state it's only rumours though! Have to admit, if what's being said about Tomlins (the chairman) by all concerned is true, I wouldn't be too disappointed in seeing the back of him

Sorry, Neko Bazu, this is totally irrelevant, but I'm so distracted by your little Zero Wing sendup avatar...!!
"All your base are belong to us".... what a pile of shite..... ;D
Anyway. Don't let Newell go. I think recent form has been down to the distractions of Sol Davis and Newell's outburst, but you'll get it back. Dowie's a decent manager but you don't bloody need him!

If the board let Newell go, I'm gonna file a lawsuit against them on behalf of the Luton fans for all the trauma it'll cause us In truth, we've had a lot of things pile up very quickly - Newell, Sol, injuries etc - but at the end of the day, that only works as an excuse for so long. We already know Sol's turning up at the club with the lads to talk to them and stuff, so that's probably passed by now. Newell's outburst only counts for the Derby match. Injuries have been getting better, though we still don't have a full first team. I guess all that stuff, mixed in with our traditional blip, is trying to kill us off! I think Dowie would just about do it
