Go Bobby!
set up first goal too!
Bobby Convey created the opening goal and gave a man of the match performance as the USA defeated Venezuela 2-0 in their World Cup warm-up match in Cleveland on Friday.
Goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann was again an unused substitute as Tim Howard impressed between the posts, but Marcus will be hoping for a place in the team to face Latvia on Sunday.
The US Soccer official website reports, "In the first 10 minutes, midfielder Bobby Convey paced the attack with a number of darting runs down the left flank to serve in menacing balls into the box, but his crosses skipped through the area without seeing a finishing touch."
Bobby then created the opening goal for Brian Ching after 36 minutes, racing down the left to deliver a cross that was converted from close range.
The Royals winger continued to impress before being replaced by DaMarcus Beasley after 65 minutes, and he was named the official Sierra Mist man of the match.
After the game, Bobby said, I think a lot of the guys were hungry, wanted to play and wanted to prove that they should be on the team. It just worked out well.
"Guys felt a little bit more comfortable in different positions today than in the last game. It's a process and it's good to win in this game, obviously, after the loss in the last game.
"It's all preparation for the first game of the World Cup. Obviously these games are really preparation to see what works and we just needed to tweak a few things. I think we did that today.
"I go out and I want to play. When you win games and you don't know what it's like to lose, you just grow in confidence and you get better. You try to get better every week and you get better all the time.
"Obviously, playing with the National Team, you have better players and it's a lot easier to play when you play with good players. That's what I want to do. Nobody likes sitting on the bench and I want to just try and play as much as I can."
2 international man of the matches in a week - good stuff!!!
(doyle being the other one)
