got bored
there was alot going on this game for millwall, knowing they could be relegated and it was southampton who got off to the better start, spreading the ball outwide to marian pahars who was making a suprise start.
on 12 minutes kenwyne jones recieved an accurate pass to feet and strolled into the box but was sandwiched inbetween 2 millwall defenders and went down rather easily... penalty to southampton.
jones picked himself up to take the spot kick as boht higginbotham and rasiak were not playing, kenwyne rolled the ball into the bottom right hand corner with the goalkeeper going the wrong way.
southampton started to show more confidence and chirs baird played a superb long ball which seemed to carve straight throught the middle, and kenwyne jones showe execellent ability to bring the ball down, he took a touch into the box but luck for millwall he blazed over with a poor attempt.
millwall started to show signs of good passing and seemed to control the midfield for the last 10 mins of the first half, however to little effect as they could not create an opening. berry powell coming closing, shimmying his way through before having his shot blocked by baird.
the second half millwall continued the passing game but southampton seemed to take over, however they seemed as though they were in no rush at all and didnt seem to create anything, nathan dyer running back and fourth down the wings to little effect as his crosses were not up to scratch.
he did infact earn a corner just past the hour mark and jim brennan's delivery found claus lundekvam 16 yards out and with no marker, he blasted the ball straight towards the top corner and looked as though he would get his second home goal in 2 matches but it was headed off the line.
kenwyne jones had a powerful header tipped over, before ricardo fuller was introduced, he almost made an immediate effect, racing onto to a potter through ball he found himself one on one with the keeper but his first touch was not at all good and he put the ball wide.
millwall started to press knowing this would could be relegation and good ball into the box was met with a brilliant diving header by ben may, the ball beat the goalkeeper easily but he was denied by the cross bar.
in the last minute of added time the millwall goalkeeper went up for their corner but claus lundekvam booted clear to half way where ricardo fuller found himself clean through, he tried to race away from the defenders who were chasing from behind and he just managed to outrun them before coooly tucking the ball away into the empty net, much to the fans relief who thought the rather slow striker wouldnt make it.
this along with an away win for sheffield wednesday compounded millwall to relegation and the fa.cup curse continued it's trend :
2003 saints runners up fa cup
2005: saints relegated
2004: millwall runners up fa cup
2006: millwall relegated
