FRANCIS FALLS VICTIM TO CRUCIATE BLOW
WATFORD'S injury crisis deepened today (Wednesday) with the news that Damien Francis has fallen victim to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Damien Francis
Just a week on from the double blow of losing Moses Ashikodi (broken leg) and Gareth Williams (anterior cruciate) Boothroyd has been hit hard by the news of the loss of his influential midfielder.
Francis, 28, has featured in almost all of Watford's Premiership games this season, scoring six goals in all competitions.
Speaking of the news, Boothroyd said: "It's a big blow, because I've been really pleased with him and I thought he was really starting to come into form.
"Such is the game, this year we did really well with injuries and now all of a sudden we've had a few. That's life.
"It was an innocuous little stretch, he hyper-extended his right knee and felt it go a little bit. It's the same injury as Williams."
Like Williams, Francis will now be sidelined for the remainder of this season, with a view to returning later this year.
Going into this weekend's match with Sheffield United, Boothroyd will now be without the services of those three long-term injured players, as well as Tommy Smith, whilst Jordan Stewart, James Chambers and Darius Henderson are all rated as 50/50.
Steve Kabba is ineligible to play in this weekend's fixture, as a feature of his contract following his move from Bramall Lane in January.
The only bad news about that is that we won't get much money for him.
And as for the news about Kabba, well, all I can say is what a great clause that is. King & Priskin to start please Aidy
