Time to get this baby back on track Aidy's email 23/01/08 Hi everyone, It's been quite an eventful week as I'm sure you well know, hopefully this email will go some way to updating you with everything both on and off the field. But I'm sure as you know, at this time of year; things can change in an instant. No doubt between the time it took me to write this email and pressing the send button, there will have been various news updates - I can assure you my phone has been red hot over the past week or so. Sometimes it's just nice to get out onto the training field to get back to what we're all here for. For me, there are three main topics that I'm sure you all want to hear about. Marlon King, Al Bangura and the latest regarding Calum Davenport. Having said all of that, at the time of writing, there is not really that much change on two of the subjects. So I will start with the good news regarding Al and his comeback last weekend. It's always good to see a player return from injury, but in Al's case, we know that his journey has been somewhat more arduous than most. What he went through over the past months would no doubt horrify both you and I, but he took it all in his stride with a smile on his face all the while. Thankfully now we are able to put all of that behind us and now concentrate on Al the footballer. I thought he put in a solid display when he came on and I was delighted with the reception you all gave him - so thank you for that. With regards to Marlon, it's as we were. Most of the time, transfers go through seamlessly. Sometimes however it can take a matter of days or even weeks, but what with them being conducted behind closed doors, the length of time that it takes is never exposed. Now of course everyone is waiting with bated breath for the latest twists and turns. As for Calum, yet again we find ourselves waiting for answers. He's fractured one of the vertebrae in his neck and thanks to the work of our physios and paramedics, he received the care he needed, so thank you to Andy Rolls and his team for that. Our thoughts are with Calum, wishing him a speedy recovery. He has of course returned to West Ham but is still in hospital under observation and hopefully he will be on the mend soon. Apologies if things still sound a little vague, but that can often be the nature of the beast in this game. For an industry that can be so frenetic and frantic, sometimes there can be an awful lot of sitting around and waiting. Hopefully next week things will have moved on and I can give you a more in depth analysis of where we are. As for our game against Charlton, it was of course disappointing to miss out on all three points as I thought they were deserved. I was absolutely delighted for Nathan Ellington to score what I hope will be his first of many for the club; I think the relief on his face was there for all to see. Hopefully he can keep up the hard work on Saturday when we take on Wolves in the FA Cup. For me, this competition still has a magic about it that I'm sure you all felt at Villa Park last April. That's why for me, it's still a competition that I want to succeed in, not just for the financial rewards, but because it's an event synonymous with all that's great about football. So get behind us on Saturday because this is a big game for us. Come on!

lol this isn't weekly but seeing as theres only 2 Watford on here it don't matter all that much..
Hi everyone,
I'm writing this email from afar this week, where I'm pleased to say we are getting in some good training and further gelling this great group of players together, ahead of what is going to be the toughest Championship run-in ever, in my opinion.
I said after the Preston game that I believe we are in good shape for the remainder of this season and from what I've seen this week, I've no reason to change my mind.
The squad is almost fully-fit and with only one or two players out in the long-term, I can look at a group of players that give me plenty of options for the different challenges we are going to face in the these final 12 games.
I really believe that all of our players will have a part to play in this run-in and that's why it's been important for the newer ones to spend some time with us, in what is almost a mini pre-season.
We've already seen the difference the likes of John, Leigh and Mat have made to the side, but I know there's more to come, not just from them, but others too.
There's no doubt for me that people like Collins John, Lionel Ainsworth, Steve Kabba and so on will have a part to play in this race for the title, and they had better believe me when I say they will need to be ready for their chance, because when that time comes, we'll need them to take it.
We've got to be at it, from first whistle to last, making sure we earn our place back in that top two by virtue of what we do well on the field. I think the Preston game was a good starting point for a performance, but we certainly need to be more clinical in front of goal, have a better referee and a fair wind if we're to beat an improving Burnley team.
Like Leicester and Preston before them, we feel we owe Burnley one, so it's going to be great to see as many of you as possible up there as we look to continue what has been a great season on the road so far.
Come on!

Hello everyone,
It's been one of those weeks where the adrenalin has really been pumping and it's still only Wednesday. We're half way through our two battles and the positive aspect is that we remain unbeaten after the first of our two big clashes.
Of course the beauty of hindsight is that we know we could have taken all three points had we created a few more chances. But I thought the defence were immense when they had to be. Richard Lee pulled off some excellent saves at key points throughout the game and in fact, it turned out to be the tale of two goalkeepers after Darius Henderson saw his spot kick saved.
I thought the game epitomised the spirit that we have here at the club, it was a real gutsy performance. We put the barricades up when we had to and attacked at every opportunity. Sometimes the ball doesn't drop your way. I thought John Joe O'Toole was desperately unlucky not to score with his cheeky back heel towards the end, maybe on another day it would have hit the back of the net.
But there's no time to procrastinate in this industry. We'll analyse our performance, have our debrief and move on. We can't afford not to spend every moment preparing for our clash with Stoke on Saturday as it will be a huge boost for us to win against another of the clubs at the top of the table.
There has been a lot said in the media recently following the FA Cup shocks, relating to how the Championship has become the most enthralling league this country has. You never know who is going to beat who from one week to the next. That's why for me, consistency is paramount. With our last ten games unbeaten, we're still picking up the points. Of course we would have preferred the draws to have been wins, but there are still a lot of points to play for.
I can't 'bang the drum' enough when it comes to telling all of you how important you are at this stage of the season. April is just around the corner and we've got three home games during that month. This will be a vital time for us and you are a huge factor in this.
Again I went into the crowd before the Bristol game and someone asked me to fire the players up. I will always do my bit, but what I'm asking for is for you to continue to do yours. Collins John remarked after the game how much he had enjoyed the ferocity of the game and how excellent you all were, so don't ever think that your support goes unnoticed.
Now we need you more then ever and that starts this Saturday. So make some noise, bang the drum. If there is ever a moment's silence, be the voice in the crowd that gets everyone going.
Come on!

Umm.... Now Bolton are out of the UEFA cup perhaps we ought to try for Helguson again. I don't think John or Ellington are able to fire us forward. Kabba needs to be given a chance. Stewart wants a new contract ? This has to be a windup on his part. I'd offload him at the earliest oppurtunity if anyone would want him. Must win game today. Come on you Horns. Convert those chances into goals & we'll be alright.

Hi everyone, Another week, another email and another simply unbelievable weekend of football has passed for us. I said last week that at this stage of the season the difference in games can be that little bit of quality from a player, it can be a tactical change by a manager, or it can be a decision by a referee. Sadly for us Saturday's game came down to the latter when Rob Styles sent John Eustace for an early bath. That's where the beauty of this squad comes into play and I've also talked often about those players on the edges, the ones that have to be even more motivated to come into training every day, knowing they're not guaranteed a place in the team. Well now one of them or more will get their chance and it's up to them to fight it out for John's place. What's for sure is that we'll need them to be right at it this weekend, because Plymouth is not an easy place to go to and get a result. They're flying, and like Hull the weekend after next, they'll fancy their chances of a play-off place at least. But we're 11 unbeaten now, we're stacking up clean sheets and even Tony Pulis described us as 'warriors' last weekend - let's hope he's told some of his old mates at Plymouth that eh? As good as we can be though, you can be better, and again at the weekend you showed it, with the sort of one-sided, vociferous support that we need each and every game from here on in. After last year's cup result they'll be baying for our blood at Home Park this Saturday, so spend the rest of this week ironing your best yellow shirt, clearing your throats and practicing you best Hendo chants - we're going to need it all! Remember, we're third in the league, three points off top, one game in hand. It's all to play for and we've got to give it every last drop - but don't you worry, we will. Come on!

Hi everyone,
It doesn’t get any easier, this Championship season, does it? Each time we hold down one of our opponents out another one pops from around the corner, and that’s very much been the case with Plymouth and now Hull City.
I thought Saturday’s point at Plymouth was a good one, considering the terrible conditions down there and the hostility of the home side. Like a few of the venues we’ve been to this season it was a lively old place to go and you can see why they are where they are in the league table.
This weekend is no different, Hull City are a good club, a big club and will give us a real test this weekend. Still, we’re the only side to have stuck in the top four all season and that just shows you how well we cope with pressure and big games each and every week.
I said a few weeks ago that players are like oranges at this stage of the season; the harder you squeeze them the more some tend to capitulate. Well, our boys are being squeezed daily and there’s no-one burst! In fact they’re thriving on it in training and around the place they’re buzzing, really looking forward to the next game.
Of course we go into our next few games without John Eustace or Darius Henderson, but what an opportunity that is for the others. I thought Lee Williamson showed the way forward when he took John’s place on Saturday and whoever gets the nod this weekend will have to be right at it if they want to stay there once John and Darius return.
We’re proving so hard to beat at the moment that we all know it’s only the matter of a goal or two at the other end before we turn these good draws into great wins, but I’ve got every confidence that it’s a case of timing for us – and that our time is now.
Your support, once again, was terrific at Home Park as they registered their biggest crowd of the season with you in attendance. If you’re not already booked up for Hull City – and I know it’s a long old way to go – then get a ticket, get your sandwich box packed, put your cagoule on and make your way to East Yorkshire, because we’re going to need you!
It’s the last game in March for us, which means we’ve only a month left – one month to get over the line, one month to achieve our ultimate ambition. It’s time to summon up all of our energies, all of our last reserves and go for it.
Come on!

Hi everyone,
There’s little that hasn’t already been said about the goings-on at Hull at the weekend.
Quite simply it wasn’t good enough, I know that, you know that and the players know it too. But it’s gone now and we’ve got to make sure it doesn’t happen again, that’s been the resounding message to the players and staff from me over the past two days.
This weekend we play Coventry and whatever the pundits say it’ll be one of the toughest games of our season, and we’ve got to go and win it.
There can be no hangover; there can be no feeling sorry for ourselves or sulking. What I want to see is a high-octane, energy-filled performance that goes and grabs the three points we need round by the throat.
Opportunities like this don’t come around too often in this game and there aren’t many managers and players that can boast of promotions and winners medals, I don’t want to miss out on that opportunity and neither will the players.
For those of you that travelled to Hull we’re particularly sorry, and you’ll be uppermost in our minds as we prepare for this game – we want to put it right for you this weekend with a performance and result for you to be proud of. But we want to do it for ourselves too.
There are six games to go and whatever the statistics say at the moment, come the end of those six games there’ll be a brand new form table and a new order and look to the Championship.
Of those six games we’ve got four at home and we know what we’ve got to do here at The Vic, then at The Hawthorns and Bloomfield Road. Our ambition is to be top of that final form table, if we do that then we’ll have given ourselves a great, great chance of achieving our ambition.
We all know it’s going to be hard, that’s the nature of competition, but we’ve never shied away from the challenge in my three years and I’ll be damned if we’re going to start now.
If there’s a team of people that’ll work harder than us this week to put things right then I’d like to meet them. But for now, it’s back to it for us.
See you Saturday
Come on!

I think Saturday’s game was a good point for the most part against a side that are clearly going to be there or thereabouts at the season’s end, especially after their win at Wolves last night.
I know a lot of people will have looked at yesterday’s results and made their minds up on how this division is going to end, but we still have plenty to say and do on that front and more than ever I want us to be amongst it right until that last afternoon.
For now it’s about one game at a time, clichéd I know, but true nonetheless. If we win ours on Saturday then that shifts some pressure back onto the shoulders of Bristol and Stoke, who play later that evening.
I not sure that there’s too much talking to be done beyond that for me, because clearly it’s actions that will speak louder than words from here on in – and they always will.
Suffice to say all the support we can get at the Vic this weekend will be crucial for us, but with it being something of a derby type atmosphere – like it always is against Palace – I’m sure the ground will be noisy and colourful. One thing’s for sure, it’ll need to be noisy to make sure we don’t hear Neil Warnock!
Those who went to The Hawthorns did themselves proud trying to out sing their lot and it’s good to see that those hardcore away supporters continue to give it all they’ve got – we do appreciate it.
I want us to win on Saturday, just like I do every week, and I will be giving it my all to make sure it happens. Come the end of the season we can look back on the rights and wrongs, but for now let’s get our heads down and look only at ourselves and what we can do to affect our results. I hope you’re with us.
Come on!
Aidy

Hi everyone,
It’s welcome back to the Championship fixture list this weekend as we gear up for a massive few weeks in our season, which will feature five games in just a fortnight as we head towards November.
We did ourselves a huge favour with the result against Preston before the break and we’ll be looking to pick up where we left off when we travel down to Southampton this weekend – a venue where we’ve had a decent record in recent times.
As I said after the Preston game, we’ve still got a lot of work to do on the training pitch and believe me we’ve been getting down to that over the spare days we’ve had because of the break.
That time has also allowed lads like Mark Tyler and Darren Ward to get to know their new team mates which won’t do them any harm at all.
They say that time is a great healer too, and there’s been plenty of that going on as well – freeing up some beds in the medical room!
The likes of Grzegorz Rasiak, Lloyd Doyley, John Eustace and the like are all getting that little bit closer to a resumption of duties for us although they’ll all be touch and go over the next few games as to whether they make it. That is something we’ll look at on a day-to-day basis.
And you wouldn’t believe that the injury curse has started striking the staff too – poor old Malky somehow managed to tear his cartilage in his knee last week. All those years of playing without such problem and he goes and does that stretching for another doughnut at the dinner table!
Back to the football and we can expect some really difficult tests over the next few games with a real assortment of teams to face. For those of you going to Southampton on Saturday, you have my thanks in advance and I’ll look forward to seeing you.
They’ve had their problems over the past few months but they’ve got a really youthful side with one or two wiser heads in amongst them. As we know only too well the one thing youthful zest gives you is unpredictability, so we’ll not be underestimating what they can do on their home patch.
Then it’s Cardiff and Wolves with their two wily old managers Dave Jones and Mick McCarthy – both well versed in what this division’s about. We’ll find out a lot about them in the next few games, and we’ll find out a lot about ourselves too. I can’t wait to get back to it and I hope you’re the same too.
Come on!
