Fourth one-day international, Trent Bridge:
England v Pakistan
Match starts 1430 BST on Friday
Pakistan lead series 2-0, with 2 to play.
England are looking for an upturn in their one-day fortunes as they take on Pakistan in the day-night international at Trent Bridge on Friday.
England are 2-0 down with two matches remaining but captain Andrew Strauss said he was heartened by their performance at the Rose Bowl.
"We showed a bit of fight the other night," said the Middlesex batsman.
"We showed some improvement in other areas but there is still a long way to go and the guys know that."
England have won only one of their last nine completed one-day internationals - and that was against the might of Ireland.
But Strauss remained hopeful they could still gain confidence and momentum ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy.
"There is still a lot of enthusiasm about this squad. Guys want to show what they can do in one-day cricket and hopefully they can take a bit of heart from that performance [at the Rose Bowl]," he said.
"But we also have to realise we have got to go further if we are to beat these guys consistently."
Opener Marcus Trescothick has already ruled himself out of next month's ICC Champions Trophy in India but is available for selection for the remaining two games of the NatWest Series.
However England may re-jig the order and bring in either Alastair Cook or Ed Joyce to replace him.
Strauss added: "He (Trescothick) might play, it's a selection issue. I've got no doubt Tres will be up for it.
"That's just the kind of character he is. He's always looking to contribute as much as possible to the England team."
Pakistan's tails are already up but coach Bob Woolmer said they were not getting ahead of themselves.
He said: "We are not talking about 4-0 results or anything like that. One-day cricket is a lottery, we all know that.
"England played very well at the Rose Bowl so we will have to be on our mettle if we are to win this game.
"We need to lift that intensity level and do better than we did - and I think we can."
Pakistan are set to field the same starting XI for the fourth consecutive game.
