Plymouth Argyle have granted permission for assistant coach John Carver to talk with Sheffield United.
The Blades have appointed Gary Speed as their new manager and he is busy piecing together his backroom staff.
Among those he hopes to bring on board is Carver, who has been part of the Plymouth coaching team since December 2009.
He has previously worked at Newcastle, Leeds, Luton and Toronto FC and it was during his time at St James' Park that he first got to know Speed.
Methods
The Welshman was playing for the Magpies at the time, but was taken by the methods adopted by Carver.
Speed is now looking to put that tactical brain to good use at Bramall Lane, as he looks to build on the good work carried out by Kevin Blackwell.
Plymouth are not going to stand in Carver's way should he wish to accept the Blades' offer and manager Peter Reid has revealed that discussions between the two are now set to take place.
He told his club's official website: "Sheffield United called me and I have given them permission to have a chat with John."
