The Italian media's reaction made me laugh... how many excuses did they trot out? The one about "fielding a weak side" was best. Any side with the likes of Del Piero and Trezeguet in it is hardly "weak," and at any rate the Bulls had a second-string team out too. Poor excuse

To a certain degree, I think it can be attributed to the travelling, probably under-preparation, possibly a lack of motivation etc, but at the end of the day those are only excuses, and shouldn't take anything away form the likes of FCD and NYRB. I don't think any pro would not care about losing, so even if they got off to a slow start, the top European sides should have it in them to beat the MLS sides - especially second-string ones.
People over here really underestimate the US teams, I find. The MLS is probably championship strength - and I mean right from the top to the bottom, not just mid-table. On their day, they're more than capable of beating any other top club, in the same way as so many Championship clubs do in our cups and as Fulham did in Europe this season.
The MLS may not be Premiership-elite level yet, but it's definitely improving - and it's bloody entertaining to watch too!

Figo was rumoured to be interested, wasn't he? I understand that's gone off the boil now though...
